Detailed online procedure to file RTI

Right to information act, 2005 empowers every citizen of India a right


to question and to ask for information relating to any government
department and any of its functionalities, services and projects. The
right to information act is applicable to whole of India except in
Jammu and Kashmir. One can gain any information reacted to any
government department except some departments like intelligence
bureau, RAW etc. Also information regarding matters that may cause
security issues like personal details, and third party information
cannot be given.
The right to information act is made effective by binding the official to
respond within a set period. They cannot delay it until some
satisfactory information is given. This acts as a strong tool in hands of
citizen to keep the government accountable, promote transparency
and maintain the spirit of democracy.
One can file right to information application by both online and offline
form. Filing an online RTI is much easier as compared to offline
method. However an online RTI application filing service is only
available for central government departments and related ministries
which inlcudes PMO, comptroller and auditor general, the Secretariat
of the president and the Vice President and the look sabha and Rajya
sabha Secretariat.
Below are the important steps that is needed to be followed while
filing a right to information online:
Firstly you must know which department you want to file your right to
information act, 2005application.
1. Part 1- Signing up
 Step 1-Register yourself with the official website of the
central government. There is an official website for this.
There you can submit an RTI request. You have to simply
copy paste this URL http://rtionline.gov.in. Create your

username and password and click on the sign up here
option.
 Step 2- before starting your application you must go
through and understand the guidelines related to RTI and
acknowledge it by digitally signing the form. Once you are
through with acknowledgement of the form, you can start
filing your application on next page.
 Step -3 Fill the form. First choose the department which
must cater to your request.Now you will see a form in front
of you. Fill up this form with all the correct details that r
required. And make sure that the email ID and mobile
number that you enter are valid so that you can receive
notifications through SMS alerts after you file your
RTI.Then you must submit the subject line for your RTI
which must be a brief about the context for your RTI
request you are raising. You must keep it simple and
mention what you are seeking from that department like
dates and status .Then there is section where you can
submit all the supporting documents.Once you are done
with all a the details click on the submit option.
 Step 4- enter the activation ID in the next form. As soon as
you click submit, you will receive a confirmation email on
the email IS that you provided. You will also receive a
activation ID. This activation ID will have to be entered into
the next form. And once you enter the activation ID your
account with the official website of government will be
created.
2.) Part 2-filing the request online
 Step 1) file the request once you login from your RTI
account, you must click on the submit request button.
Another form will appear, this is your RTI online

 Step 2) Making payment -next you need to make an
online payment of Rs. 10. Once you have done a
payment, to you will be issued unique registration
number which you can refer to for any future reference
