Cultural Belonging
Mexican American, since my parents and family, are from Mexico but I was born here in
Hawthorne California. My dad is from Durango, Mexico and my mom is from Torres,
Mexico. My parents came together to the U.S and lived 2-3 years in Hawthorne

first language in our family, I now, however, am more comfortable with English now.
Living in a Mexican household we celebrate a lot of Mexican holidays and traditions,
usually, for Mexican Independence Day we get together and watch a boxing match with This is me when i went back to visit

also celebrate a lot of American holidays but add our little twist like in Thanksgiving we
don’t have turkey or ham but instead, we have a lot of tamales and posole. On holidays
like Christmas instead of celebrating on Christmas Day, we have our feast and present

Life Experiences
Living in only Hawthorne and Las Vegas I was lucky to grow up around people very This is me and my friends at the movies
similar to me being Mexican American. Growing up most of my friends were Hispanic after a soccer game

and had a lot of similarities like playing soccer I played for Cheyenne high school where
in my junior year I won most improved player of that season. Soccer was a big part of my

fiction stories right now it’s one of the things that sets me apart from my friends as far as
hobbies go. As a kid, a difficulty I always ran into was the language barrier I had a lot of
trouble in kindergarten and first grade. However, I’m grateful for having that problem
when I did technology was moving fast and the tv was a huge part in me learning English
I learned a lot of words and phrases through kid shows on PBS kids. I feel like now I can’t
live without technology, it has become a huge part of my life to the point where
everything is connected to it in one way or another.
My Worldview
I value honesty and respect, I like to treat everyone I encounter with respect and always try to be as honest as I
can be. I and my family are catholic so we follow a lot of the values we share with Catholicism. I try to be the best
person I can be because at the end of the day I’m not just representing myself but all the people around me.
Biases I have are usually towards Hispanic stuff such as food and events because it is what I know for sure and
haven’t really experienced other stuff from other cultures besides the mainstream stuff. As for prejudices, I don’t
believe I have any I’m always willing to try new things when given the chance. A short-term goal I had was to visit
New York City which I just booked a flight so I can’t wait to go see it. A long-term goal I have is to become the best
social studies teacher I can be. The principal I live by is to do the right thing always I hate feeling guilty or bad and I
focus that on never trying to be fake or conniving.
