WOOD IN SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

To research and study about wood and its construction technologies which makes a building
sustainable.

NEED OF STUDY

Buildings and construction together account for 36% of global final energy use and 39% of energy-
related carbon dioxide (CO2 ) emissions . {International Energy Agency (IEA)}

Against this background, wood and wood based building products has attracted attentions as a
promising construction material due to their unique environmental properties {renewability ,
reusability , carbon storage capacity} etc.

Wood is carbon negative since carbon dioxide is stored in the original wood and the emissions
associated with harvesting, transport and processing are small compared with the quantity of
stored carbon dioxide.
QUESTIONS

How can wood as a construction material help in loss of energy and carbon emission ?

What are the construction techniques in the field of wood , their strenghts and limitations ?
