History of Tobias Fornier

Tobias Fornier, formerly known as Dao, is a coastal municipality in the province of


Antique.

The municipality has a land area of 112.12 square kilometers or 43.29 square miles
which constitutes 4.11% of Antique's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015
Census was 33,046. This represented 5.68% of the total population of Antique province, or
0.44% of the overall population of the Western Visayas region. Based on these figures, the
population density is computed at 295 inhabitants per square kilometer or 763 inhabitants
per square mile.

According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in Tobias
Fornier is 10 to 14, with 3,443 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest
population is Under 1, with 527 individuals.

The population of Tobias Fornier grew from 15,329 in 1960 to 33,046 in 2015, an
increase of 17,717 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of
1.43%, or an increase of 2,377 people, from the previous population of 30,669 in 2010.

The municipal center of Tobias Fornier is situated at approximately 10° 31' North, 121°
57' East, in the island of Panay. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 14.0 meters or
46.0 feet above mean sea level.
