The Filipino is Worth Dying For

The 21st century batch of this generation might not be one of the best generations there
is and perhaps it just might be one of the worst years that us Filipinos have
experienced. You might probably think that maybe I’m overreacting or just trying to
scare you, well, I wish I am but unfortunately, I’m not.
Imagine our country, Philippines, trying to climb and get pass through a wall that is
stopping him to go to a certain place. That wall is stopping him from success and not
letting him see the future before him. That wall is us, Filipinos. We are the ones that
holds back our country’s potential. Treacherous, aren’t we?
For the past years we have fought and experienced various challenges on our country.
People were getting killed and robbed of their families. Looking at children and youths
that wasted moments of their lives addicted to social media platforms, games and of
course, illegal drugs. The once key to success turns out to be an anvil holding us back.
So, why should we fight for those kinds of people? They don’t deserve it, anyway.
“The Filipino is worth dying for,” Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. once wrote. He went from
being 1971’s Man of the Year and a promising Presidentiable, to being Martial Law’s
Prisoner No. 1, forgotten by all of his once loved audience. In his last moments he was
filled with anguish, loneliness, disappointment and betrayal even from his own country,
but never did he lost hope in God, in himself and yes, in the Filipino, the ones who left
him when he needed them the most.
If a man never lost hope to those who gave up on him, why shouldn’t we? Now that our
country faces an unending road of challenges, this is the time where our country needs
us the most. It doesn’t need a nation blinded by politicians and their greed but a nation
that builds a foundation where they can all stand with pride.
I am only but a mere child, but I am a Filipino as well. I grew in an environment where
everything is a competition and my co-Filipinos are fighting themselves but that doesn’t
mean that there is no hope left for each and one of them. For every second there is
another chance, so let’s take this moment and take a stand with pride and be a Filipino
deserving of its own country.
