MODULE 6
PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
Read the article about Philippine National Heroes. Give your analysis and judgments on the
following items.

1. Scrutinize and explain the criteria set by the Philippine National Heroes Committee.
To be officially declared as National Hero here in the Philippines, there is a set of criteria and
requirements that must be filled in. They state that a hero should be a man who is willing to give their
whole as they fight and protect the nation, a man who contributed to the nation's in order to regain
peace and freedom, and a man who changes the nation's path for good. As politics is involved and a
lot of problems, effects, and situations they foresee. It is not easy to be recognized by Philippine
National Heroes Committee as a legitimate hero. But as for me, this is only a title. Being a hero is
everywhere.

2 Give your own list of people that should be recognized for their contributions.
Unfair, Unjust, and Bias. That is what Philippine Government looks at inside. Their hideous
intent, corruption, and selfishness drive us to the corner. But as we go along, even in past or present.
There are some people who fight for the country, such as Andres Bonifacio, Antonio Luna, and
Miriam Defensor Santiago. They are the list of people that everyone knows their name but not their
contributions. They stand for the Philippines until the very end; even if their own enemy is Filipino
itself shows how much determination, love, and passion they possess for this nation for us to live in
freedom and peace. Their value is immeasurable same as their nationalism towards this country.
They fight in the hardest way as they are occupied with traitors and enemies among their fight. The
members of government that should be their ally are what let them down.

3 Suggest your own standard or requirements for Filipino hero hood.

The definition of Hero is not standard, and we could come up with our own definition, such as
the moment that you appreciated your father's care, and therefore declare him as your Hero, the
moment that your friends help you in your deepest moment and acknowledge him as your Hero. We
have different heroes in our lives, and that is what is supposed to be, and we also have our own
criteria on what heroes should be. As for me, Hero is not just the people, but it is the symbol that
makes you inspire and dream. It is an act of man that makes you alive, that makes you keep going,
and makes you feel safe. Hero is what makes our life best at the very moment.

ESSAY TEST: Answer the following as a reflection/reaction to the great men and women in
Philippine History. Choose and copy three items to expound and clarify.

1 How can you pay back the Philippine Heroes/Heroines?

Philippine Heroes did a lot for our country. They sacrifice their lives, freedom, and everything
they could ever give as they fight for the nation. And as a Filipino citizen, the best thing that I could
ever do to give them the payback they deserve is to maintain the peace, freedom, and independence
they create. The fact that I am powerless, this is imaginative. How could I make this possibly if I don't
have enough power and authority. But one man's determination is enough. I believe that change
starts with me. If I become a man who seeks for peace rather than disturbance, freedom rather than
restraint, and independence rather than dependence. I could be a citizen that appreciates their heroic
deeds that eventually somehow in their heart they giving me a thank for paying them back what they
deserve.

2 If you are to play a role in Philippine History, who would you be? Explain.
A man who is a Scientist, Writer, and Artist. A man who I think the most creative Filipino being
alive, and a man who acts in silent but in a powerful way. Jose Rizal. If I would be given an
opportunity to play a role in Philippine history, I want to be a man who just like Rizal. I want to relive
his historic moment because I consider him as the symbol of my nationalism. He not only inspire and
open the eyes of the Filipino in the past but even in the present, and I believe in the future also. He is
a hero who seeks for freedom that changes the fate of the Philippines with the use of writings and
literature, A hero that shows the world who we are and what the Filipino can be, and a hero that
shows how could one man can change everything and can even change the country. The historical
moment of Rizal is what inspires me the most, and it is the role the I want to part in.

3 What are the traits of heroes/heroines that set them apart from others?
All people have differences that allow them to create a path on what they want. And as for
heroes, even they have the same goal for the things they want to protect, they are different on their
own. They will act based on the things they think they should do. The way they act, the way their
methods are, and the way they think. All of it is based on their personality and characteristics. Some
heroes sacrifice themselves until the very end, some use various elements, and others use
bloodshed to protect what they want to protect. We live in an infinite pattern of paths that make us
apart from others, which is what hero/heroines make them apart.
