Various minerals are needed to be mined in order to make cement product. Cement production
actually is a complex process that begins with mining and grinding of the raw materials that
includes limestone and clay.

Figure 3: limestone grinding crusher
2.2 Cement plant process
After the raw materials to be grounded to fine powder known as raw meal, then are heated in a
sintering temperature as high as 1450°C in a cement kiln. In this process, the chemical bonds of
the raw materials are broken down and then they are recombined into new compounds. The
result is known as clinker which are rounded nodules between 1mm and 25mm across. Then the
clinker grounded to a fine powder in a cement mill and mixed with gypsum to create cement

2.3 Quality control activities
Dangote cement laboratories are working on a daily basis to ensure the quality of cements
produced in plant such as determination of major and minor oxides in clinker, cement and raw
materials such as limestone and sand as well as strength of cements.

2.4 Packing plant activities
After cement production process to be completed cement is packed in its bags through a special
machines in a packing plant area where also will be packed in transport vehicles already for
transfer to markets areas and other consumers
