STUDENT’S JOURNAL

Reflect on the Filipino concept of hero. Now that the nature of the concept of
“hero” has been clarified as not to be posthumous award, how can a student like you
become a bayani in your own way?

To be bayani is not aiming to be called like one but to be act like one even without any
super powers involve. As a student, I will become bayani in my own and simple way setting
a good example to citizens but being a bayani is not just only about being a good example. I
will extend and lend my hand with full of kindness in my heart, with sincerity, compassion
and empathy. Moreover, as the eldest in our family, I will be a hero also in our home by
helping my mother in cleaning, cooking and doing the household chores. Helping my siblings
with their school works and preparing their snacks and lunch every time they go to school.
Furthermore, as a student citizen of this nation, I will respectfully abide the laws.

Combat, superpowers, wearing a cape, or acting as a vigilante to stop a crime are not
requirements for being a hero. Humanity and goodness are what you need to have in your heart.
Be kind to everyone, but not so much that you risk being disrespected. Let us all be kind of our
hero.
