Chiko’s perspective

Chiko is a 15 years old book-loving boy. One day, Chiko was tricked to go to the

Burmese military and met Tai. As Chiko’s perspective, Chiko thinks Tai is his crony. They met

for the first time at the military bus. When they met the first time, they watch out for each other

like when Chiko tried to help Tai with his escape, Tai said “ Don’t waste it on my account. I’ll be

in Yangon by tomorrow night.” This means that Tai will escape and be at Yangon by tomorrow

night. But they soon become friends (Tai fails with escape). When Tai got hurt by WinMin,

Chiko went kind on him and gave him a hand. This shows the progress of Tai and Chiko’s

friendship. Tai is a good friend because Tai helps a lot of things with him. Tai helped Chiko

with how to survive the training. Also, Tai got punishment instead of Chiko many times. This

helped a lot with Chiko because Chiko is a novice with training But later, many conflicts

happened such as Chiko stepping on the mine and trying to escape, brought them closer as a

friend. They both became closer friends and get to know their personalities and their knowledge.

Chiko teaches Tai how to read and write. This was very helpful to Tai because Tai doesn’t know

how to read and write. Those conflicts kept happening, those two became really close friends.

They make jokes to captain silently and help out each other. They made jokes like “Captain evil

is here.” to captain. In the future maybe their friendship developed more and they met each

other's parents and siblings.

Tai’s perspective

Tai is a street boy and he is a Burmese. In Thai’s perspective, Tai thinks that Chiko is a

very good friend to him. Tai thinks like that because Tai gets help from Chiko many times and

learn how to write and read. He thinks Chiko is a good friend because he writes letters to his

mom to get off Tai’s sister from the street. Since Chiko do that to him, Tai also did many

efficient things for Chiko to survive in the training. For example, Tai got the punishments instead

of Chiko. When Chiko and Tai were in a problem and about to get into trouble, Tai said “Chiko

had nothing to do with it. I did it.” Tai thinks these circumstances around them brought them to

closer friends. When they are moving, Tai says “He left just after Sawati was born. I like to

believe he is a good man. Like yours.” This means that Tai wants to believe that his dad is a

good man like Chiko’s dad. I think this shows that Tai knows how amazing Chiko’s dad is. Tai

thinks that he and Chiko gets benefits from being a friend. They both learn life skills and new

knowledge from each other. This affects Chiko and Tai by Chiko becoming stronger physically

and mentally, on the other side, Tai learns how to write and read. Because they got stronger, they

received more food and relaxation. Even after Chiko went missing after the mine exploded, Tai

was worried about him. But after he came back alive, he was very happy to see Chiko. I think

those two will have a great impact on the future because they learned from each other and

worked together.
