Engineering Construction Concretes On Utilizing Pulverized "Bivalvia" Bivalve Shells As Filler Material in Cement
Engineering Construction Concretes On Utilizing Pulverized "Bivalvia" Bivalve Shells As Filler Material in Cement
The structural construction of buildings plays an indispensable role on the robustness of our
economy.
2nd Slide
Building construction benefits the economic growth and its stability due to its significance as
the structure represents harbor for most of the economical operations, and plays a major role as a
bridge in the field of our economy.
3rd Slide
The structure of construction buildings plays an indispensable role to the robustness of our
economy, However, in many developing countries, they have been attributed to weak foundations,
substandard constructional materials, and poor testing of building strength leading to a greater damage
or collapse of the structure and can be fatal.
4th Slide
the cost of building collapses in terms of loss of human lives, permanent and temporary
injuries, and loss of investments, jobs, and income cannot be overemphasized.
5th Slide
Statistical data
6th Slide
In order to support the robustness of the economy, the structural construction of buildings
needs a very satisfactory integrity with high quality materials which is associated with stronger
comprehensive strength.
7th Slide
There are other ways, people find reinforcement in improving the strength of the concrete
however this alternatives have problems. Limestones, limestones contains calcium carbonate which
may improve the strength of the concrete but it is very hard to cultivate or hard to obtain especially in
our region and might also affect our nature. Another example of a reinforcement is the filler material
fly ash, because of its workability to be durable the only problem of utilizing fly ash is that it is highly
debated by its disadvantages of containing harmful chemicals that might damage our health.
8th Slide
Bivalves are so very usual and essentially in all bodies of water including marine water and
freshwater. Bivalves shells are significantly composed of Calcium Carbonate and Calcium Oxide.
According to its chemical composition bivalves can provide significant chemical components to react
with the cement in order to produce cementitious products for enhancing the strength of the concretes.
9th Slide
• 1. How strong will the pulverized bivalve shell as filler material on cement when
compared to the usual mixing which only consists of only cement to produce concrete.
• 2. Will the improvised construction concretes be durable that the usual concrete mixing?
11th Slide
We collect our bivalve shell at Barangay Gamut, Tago, Surigao del Sur
We wash and clean our bivalves shell to 3 to 4x
We sundried our bivalves shell 3 to 4 days
We pulverize our bivalves shell by using mortar and pestle
We strain our bivalves shell to extract the fine aggregate separating the larger
excess of shells
Mixing process will then take place from the dry mixing to the wet mixing. The
concretes will then be molded by a cylindrical molder (4x8 inches) The concretes
will take its curing process for about 28 days as the maximum time of curing, to
achieve the desired properties and react with the ingredients over time
