II. Course Code: Education 202

III. Course Description: This course focuses on the psychological, anthropological,
sociological, historical, philosophical and legal foundations of education.

IV. Course Duration: 54 hours

V. Credit Units: 3 units

Vl. Placement: Foundation course for all MAED,programs

VII. Course Objectives:

General Objectives
At the end of the semester, students are expected to:
1. Become aware of the vision, mission goals and objectives of the Graduate School
2. Discuss the nature and functions of educational philosophies in the analysis of educational
situations and problems
3. Discuss the impact of the different historical movements as they influence the shaping of
Philippine education.
4. Investigate, examine and assess the traits worth developing to improve one's personality
5. Discuss what different agencies like the home, school, church, community.
civic organizations and mass media can do in relation to society
6. Appreciate one's cultural heritage and participate in preserving, conserving and transmitting
it to the next generation

Specific Objectives
1. Relate the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the BU Graduate School to the course
on hand;
2. Develop clear understanding of the nature and early beginning of psychology, schools of
psychology, and noted psychologists
3. Explain why the teacher is considered as the key factor in classroom teaching
4. Explain the different factors basic to growth and development of the learners
5. Discuss the significance of the basic principles of development to teaching
6. Discuss the significance of learning and development theories to teaching
7. Recognize the importance of motivation and communication in the teaching-learning
situation
8, Trace the origin of man
9. Analyze the nature and meaning of culture and how it affects the teaching-learning process
10, Familiarize students with the Filipino historical and cultural backgrounds
11. Discover the close relationship between culture, education, and society that greatly affect
learning
12. Explain the different social factors that greatly affect learning
13. Appraise the importance of language and communication process
14. Trace the historical development of education from ancient era to contemporary times.
15. Reflect on the basic thoughts and perspectives about educational purposes and practices
16. Develop understanding of the relevance of education to society

17. Imbibe the Philippine Cultural Values
18. Explain the legal bases and rationale behind the policies, programs and activities of
DepEd and CHED.
19. Discuss the organizational structure of the Philippine Educational System
