PRONOUNS (SUBJECT, OBJECT, POSSESIVE) & POSSESIVE ADJECTIVES
Subject pronouns
Before the verb
We use subject pronouns a subject of
the verb (before the verb)
 I like your dress.
 You are late.
 He is my friend.
 It is raining.
 She is on holiday.
 We live in England.
 They come from London.
Object pronouns
After the verb
We use object pronouns as the object
of the verb (after the verb).
 Can you help me please?
 I can see you.
 She doesn’t like him.
 I saw her in town today.
 We saw them in town yesterday,
but they didn’t see us.
After a preposition
We use object pronouns after
prepositions.
 She is waiting for me.
 I’ll get it for you.
 Give it to him.
 Why are you looking at her?
 Don’t take it from us.
 I’ll speak to them.
Possessive adjectives
Before a noun
We use possessive adjectives before a
noun, they modify a noun.

 My dog is big. A possessive pronoun is NOT followed

 Her cat is brown. by a noun.
 Their sister works downtown.  The dog is mine.
 The brown cat is hers.
Possessive pronouns  The car is ours.

Read the text of Little Red Riding Hood and find the mistakes (pronouns)

1. Once upon a time there was a girl called Little Red Riding Hood. Together
with hers mum, they in a big forest.
2. One fine day, Little Red Riding Hood’s mother said, “ Yours grandma is ill.
Please go and take this cake and a bottle of wine to him. Grandma’s house is not
too far from you house, but always keep to the path and don’t stop!”
3. So, Little Red Riding Hood made his way to Grandma’s house.
4. In the forest her met the big bad wolf.
5. Little Red Riding Hood greeted his and the wolf asked:
6. “Where are you going, Little Red Riding Hood?”
7. “To mine grandma’s house.” answered Little Red Riding Hood.
8. “Can you tell mine where your grandma lives?”
9. “ Hers lives in a little cottage at the edge of the forest.”
10. “Why don’t you pick some nice flowers for hers?” asked the wolf.
11. “That’s a good idea.” said Little Red Riding Hood and began looking for
flowers. Meanwhile, the wolf was on him way to grandma’s house.
12. The house was quite small but nice and it roof was made out of straw.
13. The wolf went inside and swallowed poor old Grandma. After that him put
Grandma’s clothes on and lay down in him bed.
