Derived Lipids
 These are the hydrolyzed products of simple and compound lipid along with the other
substances like hydrocarbons essential oils,alcohols.
 Complex in structure
 Insolube in water and soluble in organic solvents

3 CLASSIFICATION OF DERIVED LIPIDS:

1. Steroid
 Do not contain fatty acids, they are nonsoponifiable and are not hydrolyzed on
heating
 Sources: in plants, animals and Fungi.
 Importances: Hormones such as sex hormones and adrenal gland hormones.
Example: Testosterone , estrogens , and cortisol .
 Deficiency: Adrenal insufficiency- do not produce enough amount of steroid
hormone.
 Effect: Impaired production of aldosterone which regulates potassium secretion and
water retention sodium conversation.

2. Cholesterol
 Its diversity are important constituent of cell membranes and precorsors of other
steroid compounds.
 A way fat like substance that is found in all the cells in your body.
 Sources: Meat, Puoltry. Full fat dairy products.
 Deficiency: Highblood
 Effect: Lack of Cholesterol-malnutrition or Celiac disease below 50 mg/ml

TWO TYPES OF CHOLESTEROL

1.Low Density Lipoprotein
2.High Density Lipoprotein

3. Terpenes
 Large of volatile unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of plants on
conifers and citrus trees.
 Have been found to have varibus positive effects on both mental and Physical
health , mainly revolving around mood and stress
 Source: plants, animals, microbes, insects, plant pathogens
 Deficiency Syndrome: including more struggles with stress and mood, breathing
problems, general unwellness , and more
 Cure: aromatherapy combinations of oils have a synergistic effect.
