1 Introduction
This document gives some quick advice about the operations to be done to install WPS product.
For a complete description of the prerequisites and of the procedure for WPS installation, please
refer to following document:

Installation and Administration Guide

2 Prerequisites
The following points must be considered to install WPS v6.1 on a given Machine:

- Machine must be a 64 bits Windows system:

o If being a Desktop, the machine must be installed with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1
o If being a Server, the machine must be installed with Windows Server 2008 R2 or
Windows Server 2012 R2
- From resources point of view:
o The Machine must be equipped with at least 4Gb RAM
o At least 1 Gb free space must be available on the local Disk of the machine for the ISO
extraction plus WPS installation.
- For Licenses usage:
o The machine should have access to the Internet for an easy WPS Licenses retrieval
(Special care must be taken in case of Proxy usage).
o In case of Virtual Machine, it is mandatory to work with fixed Mac Address as Licenses
are linked with them.
- The support of HTML 5 by the machine is required for proper use of RAN Model help. Firefox,
Chrome, Internet Explorer (from IE9) can be used.
- For installation on Desktop Machines: The Windows User running the installation doesn’t need
necessarily to have administrative rights. But depending on the way WPS is installed,
administrative rights may be required later on during the installation process.
- For installation on Server Machines (Citrix XenApp framework for instance):
o Installation must be specifically done on the Machines by a Windows User having
administrative rights.

o For a better management of User data at WPS level, it is recommended to have
Windows users declared as roaming users. If not possible, a good practice is to plan to
have the WPS User data persisted on a Disk accessible by all Machines on the network
(for performance aspects, avoid using Citrix mount point, prefer NFS or equivalent
instead).

For more information on all those points, refer to [R1].

3 WPS installation
WPS is delivered in the format of an ISO file.

Following operations will have to be done for WPS installation:

- Upload of the ISO

- Extraction of WPS files from the ISO
- Execution of WPS offline installer

3.1 WPS ISO upload

The WPS ISO must be uploaded

- Either on a Disk local to the machine on which WPS will be installed

- Or on a remote Disk accessible from the machine on which WPS will be installed.

3.2 WPS files extraction

WPS files must be extracted from the ISO, with a tool like 7Zip©(*) for instance:

- Preferably on a Disk local to the machine on which WPS will be installed

- Or on a remote Disk accessible from the machine on which WPS will be installed. But in that
case, two important points must be considered:
o This Disk must be accessible with write permissions by the user running the installation
o This Disk must be mounted as a Network Location (ie. a path like “MountedPoint
(Hostname)” mapped as a Network shortcut) and not mounted as a Network Drive
mapped on a Drive letter (ie. a path like “D: MountedPoint” mapped on
“\\Hostname\MountedPoint”)

Note that the ISO should not be mounted, files must be extracted.

3.3 WPS installation

To install WPS,

- Run the offline installer (file named “installer-x64.exe”) previously extracted from the
ISO by double-clicking on it in an Explorer opened on the machine (no need to run it “as
administrator”).
- Follow installation wizard.
o Note that the Configuration of WPS is done during the Installation phase, but can be
modified later on thanks to the WPS Configuration Tool
o Important steps like WPS Memory profile selection or WPS vs Proxy configuration for
Licenses retrieval are well explained in [R1].
- Once installation wizard exits, installation is done and WPS can be launched.

For more information about the complete procedure and meaning of each installation step, and
about Licenses retrieval, refer to [R1].

3.4 WPS licenses deployment

Before WPS can be used, it is required to retrieve Licenses and deploy them on WPS. For more
information about Licenses management, refer to [R1].
