Dear ____________________,
Warmest greetings!
Climate change has emerged as one of the most serious challenges that the Philippines faces as
a nation. As a country particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change, our
country contends with climate risks that lead to systemic shifts which will ultimately affect all
sectors of society and impinge on our aspirations for national development.
The country’s response to the climate crisis has been heralded globally as a trailblazing model
with the enactment of the Climate Change Act that created the Climate Change Commission and
established the mandate for the formulation of the National Framework Strategy on Climate
Change, which is aimed at forging the collective national agenda towards building resilience
against the risks posed by a changing climate. This agenda shall serve as the basis for a
dynamic process of determining actions through the National Climate Change Action Plan.
To ensure the effectiveness of this national planning endeavor and achieve the necessary
synergy, close collaboration and the open and transparent dialogue between civil society and
government needs to be fostered. As the Aquino administration has asserted the national
imperative of addressing climate change, the process must be inspired by such dialogue. It is
also of utmost importance that the needs and aspirations of the basic sectors, which are at the
frontlines of climate change‐related impacts, be articulated and set forth in this agenda‐setting
exercise.
Guided by these principles, the Climate Change Commission and Aksyon Klima Pilipinas are
organizing the forum entitled Agenda Klima: Forging the National Climate Change Agenda
for the Aquino Administration, to be held on Wednesday, 17 November 2010 from 2:00pm
to 5:00pm at the Ballroom A, 2nd floor, Traders Hotel, 3001 Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
We cordially invite you to honor us with your presence in this Agenda Klima, which serves as
the venue for discussing concrete strategies and programs that we can jointly undertake to
help address the issue of climate change. Sec. Florencio Abad and Dr. Neric Acosta,
representing President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, will grace the forum. Attached is the
program schedule and flow.
Thank you very much and we look forward to your continued engagement in this journey
towards our vision of a climate‐risk‐resilient Philippines.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Lucille L. Sering Rowena F. Bolinas Naderev M. Saño
