CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

An inventory system of Eric PC and Accessories is a

Software-based business solution used to simultaneously track

inventory. Manufacturers and trade resellers can both benefit

from a thorough solution; where single transaction entry records

necessary details on the products inventory, and date while also

updating inventory levels.

Using PHP inventory systems allows for much greater

accuracy in stocking and product management. They encourage

ease of interaction between employees and customers as

transactions are processed and items move from the business to

the consumer.

Computerized online inventory systems save time for

businesses by speeding up transactions while raising accuracy.

This allows for confidence in accounting and accountability

among employees as it is easy to verify how much money and

what time transactions took place. They also allow for consistent

experiences in terms of customer service. People know there is

1
always a uniform interaction at the register that requires

tendering payment, taking a receipt and transition of ownership

of products and services. This generates confidence in a business

and ensures on going consumer relationships. Computerized

inventory systems are the most common method of inventory

control.

Objectives of the Study

The general objective of the study was to develop a

computerized inventory system for Eric PC and Accessories. This

would help to the company. The proponents gave their best to

satisfy the current needs of the business by making a

computerized online inventory system that will help them in their

business.

Specifically the study aimed the following:

 to design and develop an online inventory module that

will handle the security for the system,

 to design and develop an online inventory file

maintenance module that will handle the files, records and

important data of the business,

2
 to design and develop an online inventory generated

module that will handle the inventory reports, and

 to design and develop an online inventory module that

will adding of products and pulling out of products.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The literature and studies cited in this chapter tackle the

different concept, understanding, and ideas, generalization or

conclusions and different development related to study of the

inventory from the past up to the present and which serves as the

researchers guide in developing the project. Those that were also

included in this chapter helps in familiarizing information that are

relevant and similar to the present study.

According to Abilla [AVIL2013], system is “not just an

organizational concept: It is both a process and a series of

activities that involve the entire company. Every company needs

an inventory management system. ... Here are five reasons why

it's so important to use small business inventory software: 1. Stop

products from spoiling. According to Brigman [BRIG2013], if

you have too many products in your as real

estate, online marketing, QuickBooks inventory management and

film reviews. Companies are increasingly employing Inventory

System.

5
According to Citeman [CITM2013], a computer start with

an inventory counts in memory. Withdrawals are recorded by the

computer as they are made, and the inventory balance is

constantly revised. When the recorded point is reached, the

computer automatically places an order, when this new order is

received, the recorded balance is increased.

Determination of inventory that an organization should

hold is a significant but difficult step. Too much of inventory

results in locking up of working capital accompanied by

increased carrying costs (but reduced ordering costs). According

to Jonhson [JOHN2014], excess inventories, however, guarantee

uninterrupted supply of materials and components, to meet

production scheduled and finished goods to meet customers

demand.

Too less of inventory releases working capital for

alternative uses and induces carrying costs (increases ordering

costs). But there is the risk of stock out cost. Johnson. Was runs

its stores on a perpetual inventory system.

6
According to Wal Mart [WAL-M2014], this system

records the quantity of items sold as items are purchased. The

computer system at Wal-Mart constantly keeps up with additions

or deductions from inventory and tells management what items

are on hand. The organization also conducts counts of employee

manual counts of inventory periodically. When an item arrives

at the Johnson distribution center it is scanned into the inventory

system. When the items are purchased by the consumer, the

point-of-sale system reduces the inventory from that purchase.

According to Wal-Mart’s Gail Lavelle (2014), a leaner Inventory

will help clear out store clutter and help Wal-Mart focus on

specific brand sand products that consumers want.

According to Max [MAXM2016], Max Muller (2016)

Inventory management is about more than counting what you've

got. It's about understanding business realities and making

decisions that balance current demand with future needs-while

keeping overhead and operating costs to a minimum. Now in its

Second Edition, Essentials of Inventory Management gives

inventory professionals the information they need to maximize

productivity in key areas, from physical stock issues to problem

7
identification and resolution to technologies like RFID and other

automated inventory mechanisms. Perfect for novice and veteran

managers alike, this ultra-practical book covers topics such as:

Forecasting and replenishment strategies.

Related Studies

The Manual generation of inventory reports such as daily,

weekly, quarterly and annual inventory list of records remains as

one of their key problem since the establishment of the business.

The system will also generate necessary reports of inventory such

as sales reports. (Hossler & Bean, 2013). Dennis (2014)

[DENNI2014] higher education and utilizing research to plan for

the future. Second, Dennis lists the following attributes of those

who understand inventory system. Hossler and Bean conclude

that there are two goals of inventory system.

“First, to exert more control over the characteristics of the

customer body and two control the extent of the customer” (&

Bean, 2013, p.5) Given these two perspectives, one would say

that inventory system is concerned with the attraction and

retention of customers (Braxton, Vesper, & Hossler,2014.

8
Hossler and Bean (2014) [HOSS2014] define inventory system as

“efforts to influence the characteristics and the information of

customers by directing the activities of the admissions” . Tinto

and Russo (2014) [TINT2014] report that the success of

inventory system has been only moderately successful.

In traditional way of inventory, manual inventory system

is commonly used as a way of pay to and is continuing to be used

nowadays. Tandeo and Avanda (2015) [TAND2015] manual way

of registering and inventory they must have to fill up first using

ball pen and an inventory. John Schreibfeder (2013) [JONH2013]

Achieving Effective Inventory Management guides have

provided a complete approach for managing a large and often

troublesome asset...inventory.

In our striving to remain current, the economic

challenges facing distributors have resulted in EIM, Inc.

producing a 5th edition. David John (2014) [DAVI2014]

Inventory Management isn't easy. If it were, more companies

would be good at it. But being competent at managing your

inventory isn't all that difficult either. It just requires that you

9
invest the time to develop an understanding of the factors that

should be affecting your inventory management decisions. Then

use this understanding to start to put together the calculations and

decision logic you will use to manage your inventory.

MySql an open source relational database management

system based on structured query language.MySQL runs on

virtually all platforms, including Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

Although it can be used in a wide range of applications, MySQL

is most often associated with web-based applications and online

publishing and is an important component of an open

source enterprise stack called LAMP.

PHP: Hypertext Pre-processor is a script language and

interpreter that is freely available and used primarily on all web

servers.PHP is an HTML-embedded Web scripting language.

The study used the Windows operating system with

Microsoft Office 2007 packages such as Ms. Word. Ms. Word

was used to type out all the documentation including the report,

interview schedule.

Programming languages
The study used languages such as;

PHP; this is an HTML-embed script language that

assisted in the development of dynamic pages. It was used to

connect the interfaces to the database, creating forms, user

interfaces, sessions to store user information, etc.

Dreamweaver
This research intended to use Dreamweaver because it is

easy and efficient in use, has the ability to create consistent

looking web pages, and is available for use on Windows

operating systems.

11
Database Management Systems

This research used MySQL and this is because of the

following reasons. It is free open source software, and can run on

many operating systems. It is also easy to use, fast, and is

scalable and hence accommodates large amounts of data thus

providing high level security for the stored information.

Hardware is the physical aspect of the computers,

telecommunication, and other devices. The term as a way to

distinguish the electronic circuitry and components of a computer

from the program by putting it to make it do things.

 Hard disk drive - In personal computer, a hard disk drive

(HDD) is the mechanism that controls the positioning,

reading, and writing of the hard disk, which furnishes the

largest amount of data storage for the PC.

 Memory - Internal storage areas in the computer. The

term memory identifies data storage that comes in form of

chips, and the word storage is used for memory that exist

on tapes or disks. Moreover, the term memory is usually

12
used as shorthand for physical memory, which refers to

the actual chips capable of holding data.

 Motherboard - It holds and allows communication

between many of the crucial electronic components of a

system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) and

memory, and provides connectors for other peripherals.

 Processor - A processor is the logic circuitry that

responds to and processes the basic instructions that drive

a computer.

GLOSSARY

HTML – Hypertext Mark-up Language is a standardized system

for tagging text files to achieve font, colour, graphic, and

hyperlink effects on World Wide Web pages.HTML is a formal

Recommendation by the World Wide Web Consortium and is

generally adhered to by the major browsers, Microsoft's Internet

Explorer and Netscape's Navigator, which also provide some

additional non-standard codes.

MySQL – An open source relational database management

system based on structured query language.MySQL runs on

virtually all platforms, including Linux, UNIX, and Windows.

Although it can be used in a wide range of applications, MySQL

is most often associated with web-based applications and online

publishing and is an important component of an open

source enterprise stack called LAMP.

PHP – PHP: Hypertext Pre-processor is a script language and

interpreter that is freely available and used primarily on all web

servers.PHP is an HTML-embedded Web scripting language.

This means PHP code can be inserted into the HTML of a Web

55
page. When a PHP page is accessed, the PHP code is read or

"parsed" by the server the page resides on. The output from the

PHP functions on the page is typically returned as HTML code,

which can be read by the browser.

XAMPP – Cross-Platform (X), it is a simple lightweight Apache

distribution that makes it extremely easy for developers to create

a local web server for testing and development purposes.

RDBMS – A relational database management system is a

database management system that is based on the relational

model that is used for storing financial records, manufacturing,

and logistical information, personnel data, and other applications.
