Sections of the Laboratory

Services Description Schedule


Clinical Chemistry Clinical Chemistry section is where 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
patients’ blood and other body fluids are
checked for various chemical components
using state-of-the-art equipment.

Clinical Microscopy Clinical Microscopy section performs 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
routine and special tests on patients’ urine
and fecal samples. These samples are
chemically analyzed and examined at the
microscopic level.
Hematology The Hematology Section performs routine 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
and special tests on the components of
whole blood such as the red blood cells,
white blood cells, and platelets.

The section also performs cell counts,


differential counts, and other microscopic
examination of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
and other body fluids.

Blood Transfusion Service Blood Transfusion Service prepares and 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
crossmatches blood for whole blood,
packed blood, platelets, and plasma
transfusion.
Bacteriology Bacteriology section is where patients’ 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
samples are examined microscopically for
agents of infectious diseases. Specimens
that can be examined may come from
wounds, throats, eye, blood, body fluids,
and many other body sites. The agents that
are detected may be bacteria (aerobic,
anaerobic, acid fast), fungi (molds and
yeasts), parasites, or viruses.

The Bacteriology section also tests the


various antibiotics to determine the best
agent for therapy.
Histopathology and Cytology Histopathology section is where surgical Monday to Friday; 8am – 5pm
specimens are examined at the microscopic
level for pathologic diagnosis and
interpretation.

Cytology section examines smears of body


fluids for evidence of inflammation, cancer,
and other conditions.
Serology Serology section is where patients’ blood Qualitative Serology; 24 hours a day and 7

Blood Bank Production Blood Bank Production prepares blood Monday to Friday; 8am – 4pm
components, derivatives, and products for
transfusion. Blood Bank Production ensures
that the donor is free of infectious diseases.
They are also in charge of ensuring that
there is a supply of various blood products
that are readily available for patient
administration.
Drug Testing The Drug Testing Laboratory performs Monday to Friday; 8am – 4pm
screening tests for prohibited drugs,
specifically THC and MET.
Immunology Immunology section is where blood Monday to Friday; 6am – 4pm
samples are analyzed to quantify tumor
markers and thyroid hormones.
Out Patient Receiving & Releasing Area This is where out-patients go to have their Monday to Friday; 6am – 4pm
blood samples taken or submit specimen to
be analyzed by the laboratory. This is also
where out-patients can claim the results of
their laboratory requests.
Newborn Screening Newborn screening section provides an 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
assessment if a baby has conditions that can
affect its long-term health or survival. An
example of which is a congenital metabolic
disorder that may lead to mental retardation
or even death if left untreated.
