A REPORT ON VISIT TO HUMAYUN’S TOMB

‘Monuments are the grappling -irons that bind one generation to another.

-Joseph Joubert

Today the students of grade 3 went to visit the Humayun Tomb, one of the hot
spots for visitors in the Delhi. Humayun’s tomb is listed amongst the fifteen
Heritage sites in India.

It is a Taj Mahal like structure, minus the marbles of the Taj. The Tomb was
commissioned by Humayun’s wife Hamida Banu Begum in 1562 AD,and designed
by Mirak Mirza Ghiyath, a Persian architect.

Students learnt about mathematical 3D shapes used in the architecture of this

magnificent monument. They also came to know that Red sand stone and White
marble was used in huge quantities for the first time in the construction of this
monument.

It was indeed a memorable, enriching and enjoyable experience for all of them.
