    In the northeastern United States, a school made the decision to ban the wearing of gang

    symbols due to high gang activity at the school. Items prohibited include jewelry, emblems,

    earrings, and athletic caps. In an attempt to make himself more attractive to his female

    classmates, as well as a form of self-expression, Bill Foster came to school wearing one earring.

    Because of this, Bill was suspended for going against the schools policy on jewelry even though

    he had no gang affiliation.
