FINAL Lesson Plan Template 2018-2019

Introduction: Beginning class, students will long into their Penzu account to answer their warm
up question [NEPF 3, Engagement]. They will respond to the assignment, “Give
one example for each: Simile, Metaphor, Hyperbole, and Personification.”

Daily Reviews: After the students have finished their Penzu entry, I will ask around the class for
examples of each forms of figurative language they had to write about. I will write
each of the examples on the board, explain if the statement is a proper use of
figurative language, and then provide a correct example if any of the ones the
students provide were incorrect.

Daily Objective: The daily objective will be to be able to identify the various forms of figurative
language that the class learned earlier in the lesson and provide multiple
examples of the same forms of figurative language.

Concept and Skill Using Google Slides, I will provide students with further content from what was
Development and learned previously [NEPF 1, Learning Purpose and Connections]. The slides will
Application: go over the definition, examples, and situations where figurative language is
used. The students will take notes that follow along with the Google Slides. After
the final slide, we will play an online figurative language game as a class.
Orpheus The Lyrical | Figurative Language Review

this for about 10 minutes before moving onto the guided practice.

Guided Practice For the guided practice, we will go around the class and tell a story where every
(Teacher led): student continues the story while using a form of figurative language.

Group Practice (Whole The students will break into small groups. Using Quizlet, the students will craft a
class or small groups): study set on the forms of figurative language we went over in class [NEPF 4,
Student Understanding of and Responsibility for Learning]. One student will log
into their account and the entire group will provide content for the study set. Every
student will have access to the study set since it is accessible to the public.

Independent Practice Students will log onto Padlet and respond to a board post that asks the class to
(Alone): say what their favorite form of figurative language is and why, and then provide an
example of the form they chose as their favorite [NEPF 3, Engagement].
Homework For homework, students will write a one page paper, on a topic of their choice,
Assignments: that uses the three forms of figurative language that we learned in class today.
They will highlight where they use these devices and state what they are.

Closure: To close, I will allow the class to ask any questions they may have about the
content they have learned today or from any previous lesson regarding figurative
language. I will also provide them with a vide they can access outside of class
