how to test a database

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_fH6CqiTDU

functional testing: divide each feauture to test all the schema, triggers and stored
procedures that are used to implement the functionality of that feature and test
them collectively.

non functional testing: load testing, risk testing in database, stress

testing,performance testing

Load Testing
The primary target of load testing is to check if most running transactions have
performance impact on the database.

In Load testing, the tester checks -

The response time for executing the transactions for multiple remote users.
Time taken by the database to fetch specific records.

overview:

1.Database is a collection of related data

2.A database management system stores data in such a way that it becomes easier to
retrieve, manipulate, and produce information.
3.

1.tables
1.datatypes should be checked
2.verify the length of the database columns
3.table names and column names
4.column data types
5.whether acess previlages are granted to correct groups

2.stored procedures

1.what stored procedure is supposed to do

2.what stored procedure is not supposed to do
3.write simple queries to check if SP populates corect data
4.check if parameters are they required
5.call sored procedures with valid data
6.call stored procedures with boundary values
7.make each parameter invalid at a time and run
8.

3.triggers
1.check if trigger is generated for specific table column
2.insert valid invalid data and check if trigger prevents
3.try to insert a record that already exists in the table
4.delte a record when it is still referenced by a row in other table
5.try to delete a record that does not exists in table
6.conflicts between stored procedures and triggers

4.indexes

5.constraints
1.each table should have a primary key
2.verify columns that cannot be null have not null constraint
3.whether default is bound to correct columns or not.
4.
