I Survived a Writing Class (reflectice essay)

Writing is one of the things I used to hate the most. I hate it when teachers would ask us to pass an
essay. I hate it when I have to compete in writing contests because teachers asked me to. Nevertheless,
winning in those contests boosted my self confidence. I thought I hate writing but I am good at it so I
started to like it a bit. Things changed when I had two writing classes in college. I realized I was not good
in writing.

The first writing class I had to attend in college was all about writing different types of essay. The teacher
would group us into four or five. We would read each other’s essay and give comments afterwards. I was
confident with my first essay but the people in my group are great critics. My confidence started to melt
like an ice cream in a summer day. However, the grades given by our teacher for those essays saved
some of the ice cream. I, nonetheless, enjoyed most days in that writing class except the part where I
have to sit with the group. I realized that I, including my confidence, should not be affected by criticisms
especially not by comments from fellow students who were there to learn just like me.

I passed the first writing class so I am confident for the second. The papers are a lot harder to write. We
had to write four papers within the semester and a final paper before it ends. I am excited, curious and
nervous at the same time when it is time to check the grades but those feelings would be quickly altered
by disappointment. I got failing grades on all four papers but I thought this should not affect my
confidence. Before writing the final paper, I went through all those four papers and looked where I went
wrong. Keeping the corrections and comments in mind, I wrote the final paper and I was very happy
when I received a passing grade.

From these writing classes, I realized that how we love or hate writing does not determine our skills.
There is always a room for improvement if we are bad at something. We would receive negative
feedbacks and failing grades sometimes but we would also receive passing grades or medals other times.
What is important is we keep on learning and improving.

Save a tree (nature essay)

Trees are most valuable and important source of life on the earth. They are very critical to the healthy
and vibrant communities on the earth. They benefit all the living things on the earth in some direct and
indirect ways. Everything on the earth connect to each other and running according to the nature’s
balance, if any disturbance occur to it whole environment may disturb and harm the lives on earth.

Plants protect us from many natural disasters and nourish our lives in many ways. They keep our
environment clean and earth green so, we are also responsible to them and try our best to protect trees.
Large and mature trees are more benefiting in nature than smaller ones as they capture more carbon,
filter green house gases at high rate, capture more storm water, provide big shadow and combat urban
heat, reduce energy use and many more, so we should not cut them even in emergency.
By seeing all the benefits of trees mentioned above, we can completely understand the value of trees in
our lives. Thus we should not cut trees, we always oppose the cutting of trees and forests, we should
promote more tree plantation in the human crowded area, and motivate common people to save trees.

Same-Sex Marriages (editorial essay)

Whether or not gays and lesbians should be allowed to get legally married is a controversial topic at the
moment. This debate is likely to rage on for many years to come due to the varying beliefs of those who
hold to a biblical view of marriage, and those who hold to the idea that times have changed. As a whole,
same-sex marriage has a number of implications; three of which we will discuss here.

A question that is being raised by those who oppose same-sex marriage is how children fit into this way
of life. Lesbian couples have the option of surrogate birth where one of them can be the actual mother
through artificial insemination. Gay men can opt for this in a different way by having a female friend or
family member carry a baby for them to eventually adopt as their own. Many homosexual couples have
also successfully adopted and raised children without those children turning out to be gay. Their children
—however they obtained them—identifying with their own sexual orientation without the influence of
the gay parents, seems to be a strong argument on the side of gay marriage activists.

What seems to be another main argument from gay couples is that they can imitate a conventional
family setting by moving past conventional ways of starting a family. However, conservatives will argue
that it is still only an imitation, and not a real family setting in the traditional sense. In the end though,
whether marriage for them is allowed or not, gay couples will continue to live this type of life—but they
want more. They want to be recognized by the state as legally married in the conventional sense.

The main reason for most conservative thinking about gay marriage is the religious aspect. Christians,
Muslims, and orthodox Jews will rally against same-sex marriage because they believe it is in direct
violation of God’s design for family. To support their claims, they quote various scriptures from their holy
writings and thereby condemn homosexuality in its most basic form. Their disdain for same-sex marriage
obviously stems from this fundamental belief.

Whether or not gay marriage will be widely accepted is debatable. People are more conventional in
certain ways than they are in others. Those who decide whether same-sex marriage will be legalized in
their particular state or country will like examine all of the points stated above, and more.

Do computers bring more benefits or problems in society? ( Scientific essay)

Computers have become so necessary to modern living that it is difficult to believe that they are a
relatively recent invention. We cannot live without computers, as they are involved in most of the
everyday options. It’s really hard to imagine a life without computers.

In schools, students use computers to learn and teachers use computer in their teachings. All they need
to do is just sit in front of the monitor and click the mouse. That means computers make the learning
and teaching processes more efficient. As a result, students are all better educated. Although some
people may complain students of becoming less concentrated on the lessons if computers are used, it is
not the problem of using computers. That is the problem of the students’ behaviours. We cannot blame
the computers, as it is the responsibility of students.

In offices, businessmen use computers to trade with other companies, especially those who are
overseas. They can communicate with each other in a short time. Thus, trades can be finished in a more
efficient way. Besides, they can collect the most up-to-date financial information from the Internet so
that they can make the best decision. Moreover, computers are used to control the operation of
machines. Therefore, the productivity of companies can be highly increased. According to a survey
report, the computer-related medical claims had a 5% increase within the last two years, therefore it
suggested us not to use computers in offices. However, illnesses are brought by the inappropriate
computer-aid working facilities. Illnesses can be combated by using ergonomic desks or chairs.

In transportations, computers are used to control trains, ships and even the planes. The use of
computers makes the itinerary more steady and safe. Since these computer systems are very reliable,
pressures of the divers can be reduced. On the other hand, computers are used to control the traffic
lights. They can accurately assign time for pedestrians and vehicles. They contribute to our transport
system. It is believed that computer system may be out of order, and unreliable. We should not rely on
them too much. It may be true to a certain extent. However the convenience that computer brought to
us cannot be neglected. Also they rarely become out of order. Since the convenience out weight the
problems, computers still bring us more benefits.

Furthermore, computers together with Internet save one’s time. That is we can pay the electricity,
telephone, water, and town gas bills without going out. We can make appointments through the Internet
too, e.g. making smart ID and booking of stadium. Also we can renew books. All these services are
provided simply just by logging into your own account. Although hackers may log on to personal data in
some web’s database, most of the government webs and bank webs have set up a well-secured
computer system to protect customers’ personal data. Therefore we don’t need to worry about that.

To conclude, computers are our tools to create a better society to live in. They have already taken a vital
role in our society. This only means computers bring us more benefits than problems.

5.William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor. He was born on 26 April 1564 in
Stratford-upon-Avon. His father was a successful local businessman and his mother was the daughter of
a landowner. Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the
world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and nicknamed the Bard of
Avon. He wrote about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, of which
the authorship of some is uncertain. His plays have been translated into every major living language and
are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18. She was eight years older than him. They had
three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. After his marriage information about his life
became very rare. But he is thought to have spent most of his time in London writing and performing in
his plays. Between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-
owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men.
Around 1613, at the age of 49, he retired to Stratford , where he died three years later. Few records of
Shakespeare's private life survive. He died on 23 April 1616, at the age of 52. He died within a month of
signing his will, a document which he begins by describing himself as being in "perfect health". In his will,
Shakespeare left the bulk of his large estate to his elder daughter Susanna.

Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613. His early plays were mainly
comedies and histories and these works remain regarded as some of the best work produced in these
genres. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and
Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the English language. In his last phase, he wrote
tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights.

Shakespeare's plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed, and
reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the world.

6. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves”. (1 Corinthians
13:1)

Love decides everything in this world. It doesn‘t have any conditions or boundaries. We don’t know
exactly what love is and where it comes from. But one thing is sure: we are nothing without love! There
are times when we feel shy and timid, when we are afraid of expressing the love we feel. Being afraid of
embarrassing the other person or ourselves we hesitate to say the actual words “I love you”. One can say
“I love you” in many ways: by means of nice presents and little notes, smiles and sometimes tears.

Sometimes we show our love when we are quiet and do not say a word, at the other times – we speak
loud to express it. Sometimes we show our love by impulsiveness. Many times we have to show our love
when we forgive someone.

The problem with our world is that people don’t learn to listen to each other. They hear the words, but
they don’t listen to the actions that accompany the words and do not mind the expression on the face.

If we listen attentively we will reveal that we are a lot more loved than we realize; we will find out that
the world is a place full of love.
