Is Suicide Solution for Problems

Introduction

Suicide is defined as an act of intentionally terminating individual’s own life. Suicide is a thought

which comes in the mind of an individual who is very distressed from her life and needs a

"permanent" relief from life. Suicide is not a solution to problems, but instead one's irrational

desire to die. According to researchers, suicide mortality is very high among teens. The greatest

dramatic rise in the rate of cases of suicides has been recorded in the 15 to 24 year-old-age groups,

followed by the 20 to 24 age brackets (Curtin, Warner and Hedegaard 83). It is approximated that

more than half of young people suffering from depression and stress will attempt suicide where

around sixty-five percent will succeed on the first attempt. Nowadays it has become paramount

that many youths attempt suicide to get away from problems without reasoning. Survivors of

attempting suicide usually express relief that their attempt to commit suicide was unsuccessful.

Therefore, suicide is not a solution to a problem because of the following reasons.

First of all, the problems are temporary. Suicide is just a “permanent solution to a

temporary problem." Ending life through suicide is permanent (Cummins et al. 44). One may feel

that things may not get comfortable. Regardless of the current situation, good or bad, things change

over time. Suicide is not a solution to dangerous situations because pain is not everlasting, perfect

moments are temporary, one can survive the bad, and moments will always pass. As long as one

is alive, things can change for the better. We do not have to commit suicide for dangerous situations

to change but to accept the situations and change our outlook. There are some things we cannot

change and if we keep fighting against can led to stress, depression, and anxiety. Sometimes it is

not situations that make us suffer, but the choices we make. The best gift to life in dark moments

is accepting our fate and changing our journey.

Moreover, apart from suicide, there are other better options for solving problems. There

are always many answers to individuals who feel confused and lost in life. The key is that one has

to find the answers to their problems because the answers cannot just come by themselves.

Overcoming depression and stress is a significant beginning. Seeking help from parents, friend

and qualified professional such as doctors and counselors by sharing one’s feelings about

depression is one of the solutions to a problem (Zalsman et al. 97). Opening up enables one to

accept depression is a real condition which needs to be managed. It takes courage to ask for help

with depression. For individuals who feel like they cannot share to anyone, because of fear of

shame or whatever reason, can call a hotline. Again, one can get into a chat room with

professionals; these professionals are always ready and willing to help. Thus, suicide is not the

solution to depression, but acknowledging and findings ways to cope with it is the solution which

helps one to regain control.

Again, emotions are liars. Many of our decisions and preferences are determined by our

emotions. Our brains evaluate every situation we encounter and creates emotions. These emotions

are good things, but sometimes they can be untrustworthy or dishonest (Shneidman 54). However,

suicidal thought, being alone and emotions of emptiness do not define a person. But emotional

responses such as anger, anxiety, shame, disgust, fear, embarrassment, and sadness can misguide

someone to commit suicide based on the previous bad experience. The truth is, depression can be

a problem that feels too heavy to carry, but one does not need to carry it alone. For example,

suppose that an individual is involved in a personal relationship with another person who lies to

her. A later behavior which mimics the later deception will be will be evaluated by the brain as a

threat; this may create bad emotions which can mislead her to commit suicide.

Additionally, there is no situation which is hopeless. Always there are times when

challenges of life will make us feel we have no other option other than committing suicide. No

matter how horrible life’s challenges or a situation may seem faith, patience, and trust can give

breakthrough (Douglas 87). Life is tough and rough, and it does not always work according to our

plans. Many a time, tragedies that can ruin our lives struck us from nowhere. Depression and stress

are the beginning of a turning point in our lives if one can hold on a little bit and keep trusting,

being patience and having faith. Finally, in times of hopelessness instead of committing suicide

one should surround herself with faithful and encouraging people.

Moreover, suicide leaves in a full path of destruction. Suicide hurts the people who care

about the victim. Even if one feels like the world is against him or her, they are persons in their

life who love and care for them. The effect of suicide lives in the life of the suicide victim’s siblings

and friends by it are always long lasting and profound (Frey, Hans and Cerel 53). The apparent

senselessness of suicide often fuels very significant grief survivors feel. Also, suicide victim's

siblings face difficulties that can lead to prolonged grief complications on many levels. When a

person commits suicide, his or her siblings can suffer feelings of blame, shame, guilt, and betrayal

among others. We sometimes assume that we all deal better with the problem when we learn its

underpinnings. For instance, if a university student commits suicide the whole university

(classmates, professors, and the administration) is affected.

Also, life is full of possibilities. Our lives are filled with countless possibilities we only

need to make smart choices and open our eyes to see them. There are many of ways life could go,

no matter what road you take and future possibilities are not accessed by staying on the road. Even

in the midst of depression, worry, and stress we need to open our minds to new ideas and

possibilities, take advantage of those possibilities, and do amazing things (Ratele 31). If life is full

of possibilities, this means that, along with possibilities everything, anything or nothing could

happen. It takes practice, determination and difference mindset to explore these possibilities.

However, all darkness and negative thoughts such as suicidal hanging over us can easily drag us

down. If we focus on these negative thoughts, these possibilities will never happen. Life

possibilities enable us to push the people around and ourselves to express motivation, insight, and

gratitude. Therefore, suicide is not a solution to problems what one needs to do is to live his or her

own life, seek important ideas and share them and live an action-oriented and positive life.

Finally, you are not alone in your problems. Sometimes one may feel like he or she is the

only person with depression and stress in the world. The truth is that, in the history of the universe,

women and men from all classes, nationalities, and races have and are suffering series of tragedies

and trials. Statistics show that almost eight hundred thousand Americans try to commit suicide

every year” (Curtin, Warner and Hedegaard 67). “This figure most probably underestimates the

true magnitude of the concern, but there is no way to tell for sure”. According to a researcher,

suicide mortality is very high in the United States (US). These numbers are not presented to prevent

individuals from thinking that suicide is the only solution to problems. In an attempt to fix personal

problems, one may pull away from other people and become isolated which can make it harder for

him or her to solve it. Isolation can lead to loneliness, anxiety, and depression can contribute to

suicide. Moreover, socializing can help to solve problems for individuals having a hard time and

who feel ashamed of sharing their problem. Thus, suicide cannot solve our problems but

considering that we are not alone in problems and fighting isolation can help in solving our

problems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, suicide does not solve problems, but instead, it creates worse problems. Suicidal

thoughts are usually a product of anger, anxiety, guilt, shame, embarrassment, stress, and some

unbalance in either physical or mental systems. One of the ways of solving a personal problem is

by accepting the problem. When you accept that the problem exists and stop putting more energy

into it can solve problems. It is also good to ask for help; you can seek advice from other people

and inquire about what they did when they encountered a similar problem. It sometimes feels good

to have someone by your side for emotional support. However, there is always a positive side of a

problem; therefore, it is good for one to find lessons or opportunities in a problem. Therefore, we

should work together against suicide not only for the sake of the victims but also for all our sakes.
