Evaluation on three different dirt bikes | 10/17/19

Introduction
The Purpose of this report is to show people which bike is to be the best selection if you were to
buy your own dirt bike in the 250 class. It will be going over the speed of the bike, gas mileage, and
feeling of the bike.

Scope
This report will evaluate three different dirt bikes: The 2012 Suzuki RMZ 250, 2012 Yamaha
YZ250F, and the 2012 Kawasaki KX250F. I will evaluate the speed, gas mileage, and feeling/height of the
bike.

The evaluations of these bikes were determined on which would be best for someone to buy
within the 250cc engine class. This will be based on the performance of each evaluation on a 5 star
system from 1 starting as the least greatest, to 5 stars being it’s the best in that evaluation. Each bike
will receive an evaluation on the traction of the tires, mpg, the speed it can reach from certain distances
in a straight away race, and the comfortability of the bike meaning how the height is, to suspension, and
handle bars.

In the category of “feeling of the bike”, I was looking to see which one had the best suspension,
height, handle bar length, and durability. This will determine which one was the most enjoyable and
comfortable in that evaluation.

In the category of “Gas Mileage”, I will be looking to see which bike is the best suitable for fuel
efficiency in certain riding styles. When I say riding styles, that means how much mpg the rider is getting
whenever they are racing on a track for an hour with no brakes in between, to say the rider who is doing
trail riding for about a 3-4 hours with no brakes in between as well. This will show which bike is suitable
for your type of riding.

In the category “Speed”, I will be looking to see which bike is the fastest from a straight away in
a certain amount of distance in a race with the other two dirt bikes. It will talk about how each started,
to how they were doing in the middle of the race, and how they finished.

The reason why I decided to go over these certain categories is that I felt that it was the most
important things to go over. It keeps it simple to knowing what you want in these types of bikes for your
riding style. Like say you want the one that has the most control you would be able to determine which
one has the best traction because of that category. It would just make it easier for the person to decide
on which one is personally best for them or whoever they may get the bike for.

Evaluation
Feeling of the bike
I started off on the Suzuki RMZ 250, the first thing I noticed about the bike that I liked was that it
was a perfect height as it wasn’t too tall or too small. The bike has its sharp handling but I noticed that
the front end tends to shake at high speeds which could be easily fixed. Other than that, the bike feels
comfortable and simple which is what I like about it. Moving to the Kawasaki 250F, once I got onto this
bike it was a good height. It was close to perfect but the thing I noticed about this bike is that the back
end likes to slide out in turns and that the suspension was a bit stiff. I would say this bike is well made

but has little issues. Now hoping onto the last bike, which was the YZ250, I noticed that the handlebars
were super low and had a weird sitting position. The thing I liked about the bike was the suspension, as
it was set super smooth when stock, and needed no adjustment. Out of the entire bikes, I would say the
KX250F would be first, RMZ250 second, and the YZ250F 3rd when it comes to comfortability, which can
be seen in the graph of the comfortability section.

Gas Mileage
The fuel efficiency on the bikes are all-good. We tested them on a track to just trail riding for a
couple hours and these were my results. The RMZ250 has a 1.7-gallon tank allowing to ride on the race
track for an hour without having to fuel back up. When it came to trails, it did excellent. It lasted about 4
hours until it got low and needed to refill. The YZ250F has a 1.4-gallon tank showing that it is smallest
out of the three bikes but still does well on track. It was around 40 minutes until it needed to fuel up
again. It lasted 3 hours when it came to trail riding until it needed to fuel up. The KX250f is the biggest
out of all of the gas tanks. It has a 1.9-gallon tank allowing it to ride on a track for 1 ½ hours and 5 hours
in trail riding until it needed to fuel up. This would show that the Kawasaki would be the most fuel
efficient for trail and track riding, Suzuki comes second, and Yamaha comes in third.

Speed
To determine the speed of the bikes we lined up on a straight away. Whoever was to past the
marker of 200 meters first would win. The KX250F did the best, it took off in first place and held it all the
way, which explain why it has the most horsepower out of all three bikes, getting 39.55 of horsepower.
In second place, the RMZ250 held a good fight but couldn’t get the extra amount of power it needed to
beat the Kawasaki with a total horsepower of 38.12. In last place, the YZ250F got the least of speed as it
started off well but lacked speed toward the 100 meters which explains why it had the least horsepower
getting 37.12. This would show that the KX250F wins again, Suzuki come second, as the Yamaha ends in
last.

Conclusion
Overall, I would say all three of the bikes are good to get. They all have their own unique things
about them. In the results we recommend that the KX250F would be the best bike to get as it’s the most
comfortable, best fuel efficient, and the fastest out of the other two. Now if you were to want
something in the middle of the evaluations you could choose the RMZ250. It was the middle of all the
evaluations because it is more of a bike that you would get use to and still have a good quality bike. The
YZ250F would be a bike that would be best for a rider that sticks to the trails because it’s not as fast and
a little fuel efficient but has the best suspension. Overall the KX250F would be the best seller if you
wanted a good bike that will last you a while.
