Are Music Streaming Services worth it for the artist?

Eli Porter
MSS Paragraph
Music streaming services have taken the music industry by storm in recent years.

So much so whereas it has changed how musicians and the people around them make

their living. First off, to stream music all you need is an internet connection, with

services like Spotify and YouTube you don’t even need to pay considering payment is

substituted with advertising; moreover, these streaming services have access to more

music then you could ever imagine, all in your pocket. These services also double as

social media networks, which can allow for your fanbase to grow; however, this also

causes massive competition, making it hard for your music to get discovered. Because

of all this competition, artists don’t get much pay from streaming, for example, on

YouTube one view is approximately 0.0006 cents, not even including YouTube’s cut.

With the combined fact it can be really hard to get a fanbase, small artists essentially

get no money from streaming. Music streaming services have taken the music industry

by storm in recent years and if your someone who wishes to be a part of the music you

have to know how they work and if they're for you.
