Institute for Economic and Peace (IEP) The Institute for Economics and Peace is the world’s

leading think tank dedicated to developing metrics to analyse peace and to quantify its economic
value. It is a non-profit research organization dedicated to shifting the
world’s focus to peace as a positive, achievable, and tangible measure of human well-being and
progress. It does this by developing global and national indices, calculating the economic cost of
violence, analysing country level risk and understanding positive peace.
Rated in 2014 and 2015 as one of the world’s most impactful think tanks with a budget under $5
million and a think tank to watch by the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tank
Index, the Institute is looking to expand its research team.
Founded by IT entrepreneur and philanthropist Steve Killelea in 2007, the Institute for
Economics and Peace is impacting traditional thinking on matters of security, defence, terrorism
and development.
IEP achieves its goals by developing new conceptual frameworks to define peacefulness;
providing metrics for measurement; uncovering the relationship between peace, business and
prosperity, and by promoting a better understanding of the cultural, economic and political
factors that drive peacefulness. The research outputs of the Institute have been featured in
leading media internationally, from the New York Times, the Guardian, FoxNews, the
Economist, Huffington Post, Washington Post, CNN, and BBC and are widely cited by
intergovernmental organisations and in academia.

They aim to create a paradigm shift in the way the world thinks about peace. They use data
driven research to show that peace is a positive, tangible and achievable measure of human
well-being and development. The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), is a global think tank
headquartered in Sydney, Australia with branches in New York City, Mexico City and The
Hague. The core asset of the IEP is the Global Peace Index (GPI), which is now considered the
benchmark study in measuring peace. The GPI is used by various international organizations,
such as the UN and World Bank as a source of data and information as well as being used by
academics and universities around the world. Another flagship report of the IEP is the Global
Terrorism Index (GTI) which provides a comprehensive summary of the key global trends and
patterns in terrorism. The report analyses data spanning the past 16 years and four editions
having been released to date.
