BPC standard for dressings

Surgical dressings:
The term surgical dressing umbrellas all materials used for
dressing of wounds or injured or diseased tissues to provide
healing environment.

Surgical dressings include:


 Medicated dressings

 Dyed dressings

Bandages:
A strip of woven material used to bind up a wound or to protect
an injured part of the body.

Uses:
 Hold the dressing in place

 Keep wound clean

 Stop bleeding

Cotton wool:
Cotton is a soft mass of cotton, used for applying liquids or
creams to your skin.

Uses:
 Secondary dressing

 Clean the wound

Lints:
Lint is visible accumulation of textile fibers and other
materials, usually found on and around cloth.

Uses:
 Secure primary dressings

 Absorbs discharge from wound

Gauze:
It is light material intended for postsurgical wound application
or deep wound healing.

 Wound placement

 Sterile and healthy healing

Self-adhesive plasters:
It is small medical dressing used for injuries not serious enough
to require a full-sized bandage.

Standard
The wound dressing is circular, square or rectangular. The pad
is sustantially the same shape as the dressing and is fixed as
centrally as possible to the piece of plaster which complies with
the standard for extension plaster it may be perforated or
ventilated so as to leave a margin of adhesive surface
surrounding pad.

Paraffin gauze dressings


Standard:
Bleached cotton or rayon cloth or combined cotton and rayon
cloth packed with or without interleaving paper and evenly
impregnated with yellow soft paraffin. The cloth is of gauze
with two picks in each abed.

PWD waterproof micro porous

PWD waterproof Standard:


Extensible plastic film spread evenly with a self-adhesive
plaster mass which does not off-set unrolled from the spool. The
film is one continuous length containing no color; it may be
dyed flesh color with a suitable non-toxic dye.

PWD waterproof micro porous Standard:


Extensible plastic film made permeable to air and water
vapours by suitable means spread with a self-adhesive
plaster off-set when unrolled from the spool; it is spread evenly
except that the mass is made permeable to air and water
vapours.

Standard no.7:
An open tube of absorbent lint which the standard for absorbent
lint attached obliquely by the continuous stitching of its seams
across the outer surface of the rolled open wove bandage which
complies with the standard of open wove bandage.

Standard no. 8:

A pad attached lengthwise by continuous stitching across its
narrow ends to the outer surface of rolled open wove bandage
which complies with the standard of open wove bandage.

Standard no. 9:
It consist of an unmedicated pad of absorbent cotton with
absorbent lint attached to an open wove bandage. The dressing
is sterile.

Standard no. 10:


An open tube of cuflavine lint which complies with the standard
for cuflavine lint attached by the continuous stitching of its
seams across the outer surface of open wove bandage.

Standard no. 11:


A pad attached lengthwise by continuous stitching across the
narrow ends to the outer surface of rolled open wove bandage
which complies with the standard for wove bandage.

Standard no. 12:


A pad attached lengthwise by continuous stitching across its
narrow ends to the outer surface of the rolled open wove
bandage.

Standard no. 13:


The pad attached lengthwise by continuous stitching across its
narrow ends to the outer surface of the rolled open wove
bandage which complies with its standard.

A pad attached by continuous stitching across its narrow ends to
the outer surface of the rolled open wove bandage which
complies with its standard.

A pad attached by continuous stitching across its narrow ends to
the outer surface of the rolled open wove bandage which
complies with its standard.
