Executive Summary

This assignment is carried out to study the final year student’s GPA of SEGi University. This
survey is carried out on 30 students from 11 different programs. Details of the respondents such
as age, gender, name of program, education level, GPA, time spend for self-study in a day is
collected during the survey. A grouped frequency distribution table is constructed to find the mean,
median and mode of the GPA. Different type of chart such as bar chart and pie chart are formed
based on age, gender, name of program, educational level of respondents and GPA obtained. A
correlation is calculated, r = 0.422364589, showing a moderate positive relationship between the
students GPA and the time spend for self-study in a day. A histogram is constructed and it shows
a left-skewed distribution of data as Mean < Median < Mode ( 3.305 < 3.38 < 3.4336 ).

𝑥̅ = = 3.305
30

Comment:

The product of total number of respondents and GPA midpoint divided by the total number of
respondents. The average GPA of final year students in SEGi University is 3.305.

7
Median

Step 1

∑𝑓
𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛 =
2
30
𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛 =
2

= 15th of the data.

so, median class boundaries lies between GPA 3.01 – 4.00.

Step 2

∑𝑓
− ∑ 𝑓𝑚−1
𝐿𝑚 + ( 2 )𝑐
𝑓𝑚

15−6
= 3.005 + ( )1
24

= 3.38

Comment:

Median is the middle value located in a set of distribution data. The median shows that 50% of the
final year students of SEGi University are having GPA less than 3.38 and the another 50% of the
students are having GPA more than 3.38.

8
Mode

𝑓𝑚 − 𝑓𝑏
𝐿𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑒 + ( )𝐶
(𝑓𝑚 − 𝑓𝑏 ) + (𝑓𝑚 − 𝑓𝑎 )

24− 6
= 3.005 + ((24− 6)+ (24− 0)) 1

= 3.4336

Comment:

Mode is the value which occurred most frequently in a set of data. The mode of 3.4336 shows the
most common or frequent GPA of final year students in SEGi University or most of the final year
students in SEGi University are having GPA 3.4336.

Comment:

From the bar chart, the students of age between 19 and 21 has recorded at the highest level among
the four groups of ages. This is because there a lot of students who graduated from Pre-University
programs such as foundation, are normally at the age of 19 and they pursue their studies in
undergraduate level education for around 3 years.

Next, students of age more than 25 recorded at the lowest level because most of the students had
been graduated from university around this age.

2. Gender :
Gender Frequency
Male 12
Female 18

PIE CHART FOR GENDER

Male, 12

Female, 18

Comment:

The frequency of female students in SEGi University is higher than the male students. This
situation may occur because female nowadays tend to have the consciousness to receive higher
education and be part of the white collar society. They are also well-prepared and this made them
to excel more in studies compared to most males who tends to procrastinate more.

Comment:

For educational level, degree level has the highest number of students, which is recorded at 16
because SEGi University provide a great variety of bachelor’s degree programs for students to
enroll. In contrast, the lowest number of students based on the survey conducted is belongs to
master level because SEGi University provides lesser postgraduate program for students.

because the mode obtained is higher than the mean, as Mean < Median < Mode , ( 3.305 < 3.38
< 3.4336 ).

15
QUESTION 3 (b)

Correlation, r = 0.422364589

= CORREL(F5:F34,G5:G34) explained that F5:F34 is the student’s GPA while G5:G34 is the time
spend for self-study in a day.

Comment:

r = 0.422364589 indicates a moderate positive relationship between the students GPA and the time
spend for self-study in a day. It means that the SEGi students spend more time for self-study in a
