Elysium

This is one of my favorite movies that is called “Elysium” which was guided by Neil Blomkamp. This
science fiction movie is about an overpopulated Earth that has many problems of massification and
pollution whereas another part of the population is living on a space station called “Elysium”. It´s an
interesting and entertaining movie that show us the reality of our current world such as the lack of
sympathy for the fellow man and our nature as humans.

Well, in 2154, two classes of people exist: the wealthy, who live on an advanced space station called
Elysium which was built by Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated and
ruined Earth. The poor people want to get out of the Earth and they try to reach to the satellite by
spaceships. Unfortunately, Jessica Delacourt, who is the boss of station’s security, is always trying
to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium by eliminating the illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, Max Da Costa, an ex-convict who lives in the ruins of Los Angeles and works in one of
Armadyne’s factories that manufactures robotic surveillance drones for Elysium and he meets with
an old friend Frey who works as a nurse in a rundown hospital and she has a daughter, Matilda, who
is dying of Leukemia.

Accidentally, Max was exposed to lethal levels of radiation while he was working in the factory.
Unluckily, he will die in five days. So the only solution for him is to go to Elysium because this is the
unique place where there are machines called “Med-Pods” that are capable for curing any types of
diseases.

Later, Max seeks help from a smuggler, Spider who arranges for Max to receive biomedical implants,
including a rudimentary exoskeleton that increases his strength and a transmitter to steal the
information directly from Carlyle’s mind. John Carlyle, who is a magnate of the robotic industry, is
having some financial problems with his company. Therefore, Carlyle and Delacourt have a deal that
consists she is going to be the President of Elysium. Surprisingly, Max intercepts Carlyle’s spaceship
whit help form his friend Julio and luckily they steal the data.

The war between these two “worlds” begins and after having hard fights, Max activates the program
he stole form Carlyle, knowing that the process will kill him. As max dies, everyone becomes a citizen
of Elysium, and Matilda is cured. As everyone on Earth is now a citizen of Elysium, Med-Pods are
flown out to Earth to cure the sick and injured.

The main characters in the movie are Max Da Costa, Frey and Jessica Delacourt. The character I find
most interesting is Max Da Costa because he only has 5 days, I mean he is dying and also he is like a
cyborg who fights for human rights. At the end, he completes his objective.

I really enjoy the movie because can you imagine a space station only for rich people? And what
about the others? Rich people ignore them and they don’t care about them. It was unbelievable
that a man changed that dark system and the equality took an importance again.

I would recommend this movie because this is not related with a super hero. It’s related with a guy
who changed the rules. Rules that classify people talking about money or their status. So, you should
watch it. I am totally sure that you will not regret!
