ABSTRACT
Organic fertilizer or growth enhancer for the indoor garden plant is the main

concern of the researcher. Growth enhancer increases the regular development of the

plant under controlled condition. The materials used are fish scales which are rich in

proteins and a high source of calcium phosphate. Sand particles allow the water, air, and

nutrients to distribute easily in the soil.

This study investigated the effect of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) scales and sand

in the growth of kangkong (Ipomoea aquatica). The project consists of two (2)

experiments. The treatments in the first experiment are (A) loam soil and (B) sandy loam

while the treatments on the second experiment are (A) loam soil, (B) sandy loam, (C)

loam with fish scales and (D)sandy loam with fish scales. The plants in treatment B in

Experiment no. 1 have the highest average in height, number of leaves and buds. The t-

test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances showed that there is a significant

difference found in the growth of kangkong in terms of the number of leaves using two

treatments. In the four treatments, treatment D has the highest average in height but

treatment C has the greatest number of buds and leaves. The One-way ANOVA showed

that there is a significant difference found in the growth of kangkong using four treatments

based on the total growth indicators (average height, number of buds and number of

leaves. The experiments proved that the fish scales and sand are effective growth

enhancers or fertilizers of Ipomoea aquatica.
