Direction/Room Layout:

The planning and designing of my house took a lot of my time, though I am very happy with my final design.
Primarily, to suit the open plan criteria, I wanted to minimise the amount of internal walls. In my final design
there are only two internal walls. These two walls allow for an open internal space which consists of my living
and kitchen areas. Furthermore, the L shape of my design is to allow the living and kitchen areas to be together
and both facing north. This positioning in relation to North means light is able to enter very important areas
naturally. In addition, the reason why the bedroom is the furthest away from the living areas is due to the fact
of privacy, and while still easily accessible, the positioning in my design allows for some privacy with the
bedroom. Though, the bedroom will still get sufficient sunlight through the sliding door and window on the
eastern and southern side respectively. Also, the bathroom is positioned in the middle of the house, meaning
it is close to the living areas of the house as well as the bedroom. On the western side of the house, I have no
windows and I accept this as one drawback. The reason for this is that windows on the western side of the
house are usually reduced as it provides some disadvantages. To make up for this ‘lost’ light I have included
many other windows and sliding doors to make sure that my entire house is always naturally lit and as eco-
friendly as possible. Overall, I think my house’s design and room layout can be easily justified as shown above.
In my design I have taken into account natural factors like North, as well as other personal preferences and I
think that my end design is appropriate for this project.
