IMPORTANT NOTE to POTENTIAL APPLICANT OUTSIDE UNITED STATES

OF AMERICA

We ask that you enter all Schools that you have worked at in your past.

When you come to the United States, how much money you make is decided by three important things:

1. Level of degree (i.e.; Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D., etc.)

2. Years of Teaching Experience
3. Location of Placement (i.e.; North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida)

It is important that you enter all jobs that you have worked for in the past because we want you to be paid
the right amount of money! We cannot use any experience that is not entered on your application and that
has not been verified. In order to calculate your experience, we follow State rules set in place for
American Teachers.

Experience Counts!
In the United States, teachers are only paid for years of teaching experience that were received after
getting a Bachelor’s degree. Some Countries allow teachers to only have a Teaching Diploma. If you are
from one of those Countries, you should still enter all of your teaching experience, however, you should
be prepared to receive credit for only the years after the date of your Bachelors Diploma.

In the United States, a ‘full-time” job is considered 40 hours per week. This includes both teaching time in
the classroom and planning time. When deciding how many hours per week you work, you should
consider both of these things. If you work under 36 hours per week, it is not considered full-time and you
will not be given full credit for that year.

When calculating experience, you are NOT allowed to use the following:

 tutoring positions
 after-school work
 summer training camps
 any job where you worked less than 5 hours per week

You do not need to include these on your profile.

What documents are acceptable for verifying your Teaching History?
In order to calculate your experience, EPI requires that you upload proof of employment for all positions
listed on your profile. There are many ways that you can provide proof of employment on your profile.

 Some of the most common ways are:

 Letter from Supervisor on Official School Letterhead
 Letter of Employment from the Ministry of Education
 Tax Documents that state Name of Employer
