Glossary 1

1- Wild: -(adj) Living in a state of nature and not tamed.

When I went to the Lancandonna Jungle, I could see many wild animals.

2- Apologize: (v) to offer an apology or excuse for some fault, insult, failure, or injury.

I had to apologize because I said some bad things about him.

3- Bite (v) to cut or tear with the teeth.

I can’t bite my flesh, it's very stiff.

4- Take care of: (v) To be responsible of the cares of an animal, a baby or a person.

She took care of her little sister all the night.

5- Wrestle: (v) To fight or struggle (with) by holding, throwing, or forcing an attacker to the
ground.

I wrestled with many greatest fighters when I trained karate.

6- Grew up: (v) To increase in size by a natural process of development.

I remember when your son was a child, he grew up so fast.

7-Chick: (n) A young chicken or other bird.


Did you see that penguin chick? It’s so cute.
8- Shot: (n) A photograph, esp. a snapshot.
This is an incredible shot because the photographer could take the perfect battle scene.
9- Enough: (adj) Adequate or sufficient for the purpose.
We don’t have enough money to buy the gift.
10-Cute: (adj): Charmingly attractive, esp. in a pert or dainty way.

Oh look, that baby panda is so cute that I want to hug it.


11- Contest: (n) A competition between rivals.
I can’t believe that I won the chemistry contest, I thought that my rival Gary would won.
12-Coats: (n) An outer garment covering at least the upper part of the body.

Have you seen my green coat? I can’t find it.


13-Seal: (n) An emblem, symbol, etc., placed on something to show its authenticity.
The Mexico seals are the national shield and flag.
14- Fur: (n) the soft, thick, hairy coat of a mammal.

I don’t like the persons that wear fur clothes because It’s inhuman kill animals only for
wearing their furs.

15-Ribbon: (n) A band of fine material, used for ornament, tying, etc.
She looks pretty with those pink ribbons.
16-Shy: (adj) Retiring; timid.
When I saw her, I could see her shy but beautiful smile.
17-Likely: (adj) probable, fairly sure,expected.
The sky is cloudy it's likely that rain.
18-Stand: (v) to be located or situated.
The building stands on the center of the city.

19-Own: (adj) Used after a possessive pronoun to emphasize the idea of ownership of,
interest in, or relation to the next noun of, relating to, or belonging to oneself or itself.
I'm going to buy my own car.

20-Shipwreck: (n)The destruction of a ship, as by sinking.


the mighty hurricane caused a shipwreck, neither person could survive.
21-Sink:(v) To fall or descend to a lower level or position.
The ship sank because it collided with an iceberg.
22-Reminder: (n) A person or thing that serves to remind.
Sometimes I put some notes on the refrigerator because they are reminders of some important
activities.

23-Items:(n) A separate thing or particular article.


I bring some items for camping like these lamps and this medicine kit.
24-Reach: (v) To get to or as far as.
The storm caused that the boat reached the coast

25-Rob:(v) to take something by unlawful force, steal from.


They robbed the bank and then they escaped in a blue Ferrari.
26- Grave:(n) A place in the ground in which to bury a dead body.
When I see the grave of my grandfather I can’t avoid to cry.

27-Lifelong:(adj) Lasting or continuing through all or much of one's life.


My lifelong dream is to climb Mount Everest.
28-Bow: (n) The front or forward end of a ship or airplane.

The bow of the ship had some damage after the accident.
29-Release: (v) To allow to be known, issued, published, broadcast, or exhibited.
They released some interesting pictures about Lacandona jungle.
30-Disable: (v) To make unable or unfit, weaken or destroy the capability of,

cripple.
My cellphone is disabled because the battery is damage.
31-Thrill:(v) to (cause to) feel a sudden wave of emotion or excitement.
I thrilled when I knew that I won the lottery.

32-Despite: (prep) In spite of, notwithstanding.


In despite of the my gift my project wasn't accepted.
33-Relief:(n) The ending or lessening of pain, distress, worry, fear, etc.;
alleviation.

It gives me relief to know that you survived the accident.


34- Target:(n) An object, usually marked with ringed circles, to be aimed at in shooting
practice or contests.

He practiced his shots with the new target.


35-Heal:(v) to (cause to) become healthy or well again.
the medicine helped to heal you of your disease.
36-Surround: (v) To enclose on all sides, encircle.

the police surrounded the thieves and then they arrest them.
37-Crackdown:(n) The severe enforcing of regulations, esp. to punish opponents, serious
lawbreakers, etc., strongly or harshly.
The judge cracked down the criminal for all his horrible crimes.
38-Surgery:(n) The practice of treating diseases, injuries, etc., by performing medical
operations or procedures, or the branch of medicine dealing with such.
My grandfather had a surgery in his heart because he had a heart attack some days ago.
39-Border: (n) The line that separates one country, province, etc., from another .
The Bravo River is the border that separate U.S.A and Mexico.

40-Outcry: (n) A strong and usually public expression of protest or anger.


There was a lot of traffic because on the center there was an outcry.
