Assignment 1: Working at a state company and at a foreign company

Admittedly, at the dawn of the new century, there are several choices available when
choosing a company to work in, state companies and foreign companies are two typical
types that usually stand out the most. These two kinds of enterprise are not only different
from each other in the way of working and paying but also in their roles with respect to
the whole process.

To begin with, working in government sectors provides employees with many unique
merits, one of which is its stability. For instance, when economic crisis occurs, other
private small sectors have to be the ones to stop running their business first even before
the state ones took actions. Besides, it is true that state company have low pace of work
compared to other kinds of business. It slows down the workflow because all major and
even minor decisions have to go through formal approval process. On the other hand,
foreign companies are more suitable for people who prefer challenging jobs. Employees
of multinational corporations have to not only deal with numerous complicated issues
day by day but also compete with other thousands of employees in the same company for
not losing their position. These challenges brings global enterprises the high working
pace in the workplace.
In addition, government enterprises give employees more social welfare. To be more
specific, employees often have superior health care plans with lower cost and favorable
pension given monthly after retirement to support their life. Moreover, a vast majority of
state employees are guaranteed “defined benefit” pensions because it doesn't depend on
a person’s earnings while employed. Some states also provide health insurance for retired
employees as well as tax-free pension payment. Unlike government-owned companies,
foreign enterprises offer the employees high salaries and bonus according to their
individual capabilities. Therefore, every individual should try their best at work because
the better the performance is, the more one get paid.
Nevertheless, state employees bear lots of pressure and responsibilities since the job
requires high level of accuracy and deliberation. For example, as hundreds of documents
often ask for urgent stamping and correcting in a short period of time, this can cause
stress to employees who work continuously and frantically day by day. The same as
working at state companies, for the foreign ones, employees often work on many
different projects with different partners at the same time, which requires each person
good multitasking skills. Especially, those projects, one way or another, have widespread
influence on various countries, so accuracy is highly essential.

In conclusion, whether it is government-owned or multinational company, each has their

own strength even in a national or global economy. Determining which one to devote
one’s strength and time should be based on how that company suited employees and how
both sides benefit from each other.
