ABSTRACT

Cases of bacterial meningitis in Indonesia reached 158 / 100,000. Bacterial


meningitis affects children aged less than 2 years. Patients with bacterial meningitis who
survive are at risk for complications such as brain damage. Therefore, patients with
bacterial meningitis, especially in children need to get the optimal therapy. This study
aims to determine the empirical antibiotic use against

cinical outcome pediatric patients with bacterial meningitis at the Hospital inpatient
ward Dr. Sardjito. Research carried out by the draft descriptive observational
retrospective data collection of medical records of patients who met the inclusion
criteria. Obtained as many as 25 patients with appropriate inclusion criteria. The results
showed that 26% of empirical antibiotic use in accordance with the guideline treatment
of bacterial meningitis. Clinical outcomes empiric antibiotic use that has improved by
40%.

collecting the data retrospectively on the medical records of Patients who met the
inclusion criteria. There were 25 Patients who met the inclusion criteria. The results
Showed that 26% use of empiric antibiotics was in accordance with the guidelines for
the treatment of bacterial meningitis. Increased empiric therapy clinical outcomes of
40% Patients.
