1. Find the degree of the following polynomials (1 mark):


a. P(x) = x77 – 20x23 + 100
b. P(m) = 22m2 – 900m4 – m6
2. If (x + 1) is a factor of the polynomial f(x) = mx2 – x + 1, find the value of m2 (1 mark)
3. Find a quadratic polynomial whose sum of zeroes is -2 and the product of its zeroes is √2
(1 mark)
4. If the graph of the quadratic polynomial ax 2 + bx + c cuts in the positive direction of y
– axis, then what is the sign of c? (1 mark)
5. If the product of the zeroes of the polynomial (ax 2 – 6x – 6) is 4, find the value of a
(2 marks)
6. Find a cubic polynomial whose zeroes are 3, ½ and -1 (2 marks)
7. On dividing p(x) = x4 – 3ax2 – 1 by (x – 2), we get a remainder 3. Find the value of a
(2 marks)
8. If α and β are the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial p(x) = 4x2 – 5x – 1, find the value of
α2β + αβ2 (3 marks)
9. Find the zeroes of g(x) = a(x2 + 1) – x(a2 + 1) and verify the relationship between zeroes of the
polynomial and its coefficients (3 marks).
10. Check whether the first polynomial is a factor of the second polynomial by long division method.
P(x) = x3 – 3x + 1 and q(x) = x5 – 4x3 + x2 + 3x + 1 (3 marks)
11. On dividing (x3 – 3x2 +x + 2) by a polynomial g(x), the quotient and remainders were (x – 2) and
(-2x + 4) respectively. Find g(x) (3 marks)
12. Obtain all zeroes of the polynomial f(x) = 2x 4 + x3 – 14x2 – 19x – 6, if two of its zeroes are -2 and
-1 (4 marks)
13. For a quadratic polynomial f(x), f(0) = 0 and sum of the roots is 2. Find the equation (4 marks).
