School Principal: Discipline students on cellphone usage

RATIFYING BAN OF CELLPHONES

By Jemima G. Nano, 8 – SPJ

“We need to discipline students regarding cellphone usage especially during class hours.”

This was the line stressed by Dr. Leopoldo M. Pulido, Principal IV, when he addressed the
students during the flag ceremony, July 16.

“Students are not allowed to use cellphones inside the campus. This is to minimize learning
distractions and so that you can focus on your studies, “he continued.

Dr. Leopoldo cited DepEd Orders Nos. 83, s. of 2003, No. 26 s. of 2000 and No. 70 s. of 1999
which imposed a ban on the use of cellular phones during class hours as bases for implementing the
policy.

Moreover General PTA President Sunny V. Tenebro supported the implementation of the policy
and presented it to the body during the General PTA meeting conducted last July 14. This was reiterated
by the advisers during their homeroom meeting with the parents.

“Pornography and violence are also promoted in the social media. Banning cellphone use in the
classroom can, in a way, helps curb this problem,” Mr. Tenebro said.

“I challenge the teachers to educate their students in using their gadgets responsibly to prevent
them from adopting inappropriate and immoral activities,” he ended.
