You are on page 1of 3

Hi everyone!

I hope you had a great day and are ready for our last lectured seminar
tonight.

Of course, we will have one more seminar next week but you will be the star of the next
week seminar when you will be sharing about your experience with statistics and
likes/dislikes about this course.

Some of you are a little behind…please do your best to get to the finish line…it is just a
few inches away ( I know sometimes it feels like miles away but you are very close!).

I really want all of you succeed in this class. After all, you invested a lot of time, money,
and energy on this class with all that you do in your life. So, do your best to get the
remaining work to me before the deadline.

This week's concepts are not hard and the calculations are very mechanical and mostly
done by Excel. Basically, Excel does all the work for you (because doing it by hand is
kind of insane in some sections). Plus, "Computer Solutions" part of each chapter tells
you exactly and step-by-step how to do a problem.

Also, I have posted some examples on the Doc Sharing to help you with your work in this
Unit. Please make sure to go over them before you attempt your assignment problems.
Some of assignment problems might be a little challenging to know about what needs to
be done in them but sample problems that I posted on doc sharing will help a lot.

So, tonight, I would like to talk about a few things and make sure we all are on the same
page on these issues.

You can either do the calculations of problems manually (if you are a fan of it) or just use
Excel, like some problems in the book. If you are using Excel, remember to make
*conclusion* about the Excel output. Every term, I have a very few students who do all
the work on the projects using Excel but do not provide any “conclusion” for the work
done.

The best way to learn how to make a conclusion in a problem is by reading the
conclusion section of the examples in the book. Just copy the way they phrase the
conclusion part of the problem and modify it to fit your problem.

Computer Solutions in each chapter tells us how to use Excel as well as how to interpret
the Excel result.

On the issue of Statistical Analysis Report, I still have not gotten the proposed article
from some of you. Please make sure to send your choice to me for approval/suggestions
as soon as you can. It is one of the easiest part of your overall work in this class so make
sure to get it done 
Here are some notes about the Review Report I am going to go over them here to
make sure everybody is on the same page regarding this project. A few of you
have already sent me your proposal and are working on your report.

First, you can select an article from Kaplan or any other website. Please don't forget to
send a copy to me via Kmail for approval before you start working on it. Some of you
have already done this part.

The best article is the one that has clearly listed some statistical techniques in it. Just like
the samples that I have posted on Doc Sharing. Here is what you need to do.

You need to read the article that you have selected and analyze its work. In other words,
discuss whether you agree with the kind of statistical methods that were used. Also,
discuss what kind of other techniques you can suggest that could be used in the study to
further enrich the outcome of the report.

You need to be more specific. The answer of...we can use correlation here...is not
acceptable for an A grade paper. If you think correlation is needed, you need to tell us
what variables are involved and how you get the sample (if needed) and what you think
the outcome would be based on the data and conclusion of the paper that we already now.

If you have difficulties finding a report that includes some statistical work just select one
that has some descriptive data or percentages and then suggest the type of statistical
methods that could have been used in the report by clearly defining variables in your
methods (i.e. if you are suggesting a regression or prediction line then you need to tell
what would be the dependent variable and independent variables).

So, you really need to be a critic of the report and you don't have to always find
something wrong with the paper if that paper is a well-done one. You can just comment
on the work and express hypothetically what would happen if they have had another
technique in the study and how it might have affected the final conclusion.

Make sure to include graphs, computer output, or any piece that can help understanding
of the article in your report.

Remember, I don't expect you act like a professional Statistician. Just make sure to
elaborate on your suggestions and don't just tell us we could have used this and that
method.

Here are some important dates for us in this class. The start and end times are 12 am ET
Final Exam is a comprehensive examination that includes 25 multiple-choice questions.
The types of problems are very similar to the assignment problems and Quiz questions. It
is a good idea to have the quiz questions and assignments (and their answers) handy
when working on your Final Exam.

The Final Exam must be completed by the end of Unit 9. System will shut down the
Final Exam link at the end of Unit 9.

 Final Exam Opens: June 13

 Technical Article Review due : June 19
 Final Exam Closes: June 19
 Last day for late projects and message board posts is June 22

I need to post the final grades shortly after June 22 so please make sure you submit all
remaining work, take your final test and submit your Statistical Article Review project by
the deadlines mentioned above.

I have extended the acceptance of your projects by April 7 to help you with completion of
your work before the end of the term. I hope it gives you enough time to finish all your
work.

There is a survey for this course. I strongly encourage you to take the time for
this critical activity. I encourage you to be honest in your assessment.

These surveys are anonymous. Your feedback helps to strengthen Kaplan's

curriculum and instruction, and so your comments are highly valued.

Best wishes…
