MOTORISED DOUBLE ACTION HACKSAW MACHINE

INTRODUCTION

A hacksaw is a handheld device used to slice through materials like plastic tubing and metal
funnels. Its cutting system is given by removable edges which include sharp teeth along their
external edge. It takes a lot of time and efforts to cut these materials using hacksaw machines.
Therefore we can use Motorised hacksaw machine to Increase the production rate of the
machine. Now in industry, it is necessary to cut metal bars with very high rate to achieve
mass production requirement. So there is need to move for a new technology which gives us
a mass production with less time and less energy input. It is impossible to depend upon
conventional hack saw machine. By using this two way hack saw machine the two metal bar,
pipes or rods can be cut the simultaneously to achieve high speed cutting rate and mass
production for maximum benefits in manufacturing industries. This machine overcomes the
drawback of depending on human efforts for cutting the components. It can be used in a
small workshops and industries as it is available in very low price and its smaller size and
high efficiency. The cost of this machine is quite low compared to other similar machines.
We can cut two materials at the same time using this motorised double acting hacksaw
machine. This machine uses scotch yoke mechanism which converts rotary motion into
reciprocating motion.

WORKING PROCEDURE

We here use a motor with two connecting rods attached to it. The motor and connecting rods
are attached in position using a Hollow disc to hold it in its position. One end of the
connecting rod is attached to the motor, while the other end is connected to the hacksaw. We
attach the hacksaw in such a saw that it comes perpendicular to the work piece. Attaching
two hacksaw in either direction enables us to operate in both directions and both of them at
the same time. Hacksaw is held in position by the hacksaw frame and bed is used to support
the work piece in position. When power supply is given to the machine, the motor starts
rotating. This rotating motion of the motor is transferred to the connecting rods by the hollow
discs. This helps the connecting rods to reciprocate. The other side of the connecting rods are
attached to the hacksaw. So, the hacksaw also reciprocates which helps to cut the work piece.
This machine is held in position by a frame base. The frame base provides stability and avoid
vibration so the machine while running. Weight is provided at the top of the hacksaw frame
for smooth cutting of the work piece. Thus, rotary motion is converted into reciprocating
motion by the scotch yoke mechanism.

DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS

The components of motorised double hacksaw machine Include:-

1. Frame base
2. DC Motor
3. Hollow disc
4. Hacksaw blade
5. Connecting rods

1. FRAME BASE :- Frame base is provided to provide stability to the machine. It

also helps to avoid vibrations in the component. The frame base give strength and
makes the machine robust.
2. DC MOTOR :- A machine that converts DC Electrical power into mechanical
power is known as a D.C. motor. This operation is based on the principle that
when a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, the conductor
experiences a mechanical force. The direction of this force is given by Fleming’s
left hand rule. It provides electric current to the Machine.
3. HOLLOW DISC :- We use the disc in circular shape. On this disc all the bearing
is happen. It helps to convert the rotary motion to linear movement.
4. HACKSAW BLADE :- In hacksaw like most frame saws, the blade can be
mounted with the teeth facing toward or away from the handle, resulting in
cutting. Action on either the push or pull stroke. In normal use, cutting vertically
downwards with work held in a bench vice, hacksaw blade should be set to be
facing forwards. Some frame saws, including fret saws and piercing saws, have
their blades set to be facing the handle because they are used to cut by being
pulled down against a horizontal surface, by the help of scotch yoke mechanism.
5. CONNECTING RODS :- A hole on at the end of this rod is made for joints and
link connections. we have used two of these shaft for two side hack saw. Together
with the crank, it forms a simple mechanism that converts reciprocating motion
into rotating motion. A connecting rod may also convert rotating motion into
reciprocating motion.

ADVANTAGES

1. Weight of the machine is less

2. It reduces the work of labour
3. High production rate
4. Cost is less
5. Easy maintenance and maintenance cost is low.
6. It withstands all atmospheric effects.
7. Easy to operate

APPLICATIONS

1. Motorised hacksaw can be used for cutting hard materials. They are extensively used
in forestry, construction, demolition, wtc.
2. In Workshops
3. In small scale industries
