1. What is Huawei Certified Network Associate (HCNA)?

Presently, HAINA at GIK is offering trainings in Routing and Switching (HCNA–R&S), and plans
to offer more advanced level trainings in future. HCNA–R&S will cover following three major
modules:

Enterprise Networks
 Background knowledge of network concepts & technologies
 Understanding the basic principles and hands-on practice on real switches and routers
for configuring Huawei’s network OS and protocols.
Routing and Switching Technologies
 Core knowledge of routing and switching technologies.
 Practical implementation on routers and switches to obtain an in-depth understanding.

Advanced Network Technologies

 Understanding basics of IPv6 and Software Defined Networking (SDN) principles.

2. Benefits of HCNA training to students

 Globally recognized industrial standard training and certification that are essential for
employment in industry
 Gain the knowledge and skills that employers require
 An opportunity to get certified before graduation and standout among peers
 Increased job opportunities
 Special student discount vouchers on Huawei certification exams

3. Discounted Vouchers of Huawei Certification Exam

All the students trained by GIK-HAINA are eligible for availing the discounted certification exam
vouchers (50-100% discounts) from Huawei. Training of the four batches of GIK-HAINA has
been successfully completed and students have received their 100% discounted free HCNA (R&S)
certification vouchers worth 200 USD (approx. 30,000 PKR).

4. How to Apply?
The HAINA training is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. In order to register for
the training, you are required to print and complete the attached Application Form and get it signed
by Dean/Head of department. Post the duly completed and signed application to the following
address by 21st June, 2019.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Note that seating is limited, so
apply as early as possible.

5. Course Duration and Fee

Both undergraduate and postgraduate (male and female) students and computer science and IT
faculty and staff may apply. The minimum requirement is that a candidates enrolled in 2nd year (or
above) undergraduate Computer/IT related undergraduate programs may apply.

Shortlisted candidates will have to pay Rs. 14,000/- as a one-off course fee. The course consists of
40 hours of training and practice lab work. Schedule of classes will be emailed to the selected
students at a later stage.

Note: Candidate are responsible for their travelling, dining and accommodation arrangements.
GIK is not responsible for above mentioned expenses. However, there is a University Cafe and
Campus hotel inside the institute where trainees can dine in on their own expense. GIK Institute
may provide accommodation on additional charges.

 Target Audience
o Those who wish to become a Huawei Certified Network Associate
o For those who possess a working knowledge of routing and switching technologies.

 Project Description

With HCNA certification, you demonstrate a basic understanding of small and medium-sized
networks, including general network technologies, and the ability to assist the design of
small and medium-sized networks, and implement the designs using Huawei routing and
switching devices.

 Prerequisites
o A working knowledge of IT technologies.
 Objectives
On completion of this program, the participants will be able to:

o Explain the intricacies of data transmission over IP networks, for competency in

supporting, maintaining and troubleshooting IP networks.
o Perform IP address planning for establishing well designed networks.
o Navigate and manage Huawei products through the virtual routing platform (VRP).
o Build efficient data switching environments through the management of switching
products and manipulation of related (STP/RSTP) link layer protocols.
o Explain the principles of routing and configure (RIP/OSPF) routing protocols for
implementation and support of effective enterprise network routing solutions.
o Establish solutions for enterprise network administration and management through
application layer services including DHCP, FTP and Telnet.
o Establish a fundamental network capable of supporting basic communications.
o Enhance link layer performance the through implementation of features and services
including link aggregation, VLAN technologies and GVRP.
o Manage and support Wide Area Network communications over serial links for a range
of technologies including HDLC, PPP, PPPoE and Frame Relay.
o Apply Network Address Translation (NAT) solutions for private networks.
o Provide Wireless WAN network backup solutions over 3G cellular networks.
o Provide effective IP security solutions using various security architectures including
Access Control Lists (ACL), AAA, and IPSec with GRE support solutions.
o Describe and implement solutions for unified enterprise network management,
including SNMP
