Mancala is a group of games played


in Africa, the Middle East, and
central Asia. People play the games
by moving seeds on a board with
pits carved in it.

TUG OF HOOP
In the game of tug of hoop, both players have
a hooked staff and there is one hoop at about
knee-height. To begin, the two players draw a
line in between them dead center under the
hoop. Then they both hook the staffs at
either end of the hoop and they
simultaneously pull in opposite directions.
The first one to cross the drawn line wins.

➼ The Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo has
indicated that the oldest game from ancient
Egypt was called “Senet”.

➼ It is a board game that was played by many


of the members of the royal families.

➼ In ancient Egypt, the name Mehen, meaning 'coiled one',
referred to a mythological snake-god and to a board game.

➼ The rules and method of playing the game are unknown,


although rules have been created in modern times based on
assessments of how it may have been played.
