Euthanasia or mercy killing is a process of voluntary death which

relieves a patient from months and years of pain and suffering in the
process of dying.

People have a right to self determination and should be allowed to

choose their own fate in order to reduce agony from fatal diseases like
terminal cancer and amputation of major portion of the body.

According to WHO 86% of the public support euthanasia for terminally

ill and 73% of patients suffer in utter pain due to lack of it.

In India majority of the families are middle class and uninsured and the
cost of expensive medical facilities for terminally ill is simple waste of
money.

And on the part of passive euthanasia withdrawal of life support makes

the suffering more prolonged which can obviated encouraging organ
transplantation by helping patients with organ failure.

We our self do not know whole notion of pain, and how every
individual experiences physical pain or psychic pain, but the person
begging for mercy makes the picture quite clear.
SUMMING UP

Taking in consideration what my dear opponent has said,I

would like to remind them the example of CHANTAL SEBRIE a
retired french teacher who was suffering from a rare cancer in
which her head started to develop a tumor which was
procuring out of her eye to which there is no cure till date.
Being denied the euthanasia she had to take her life by taking
in a lethal poison.

With that in mind, I think Euthanasia is not driving the society

on the brink of slippery slope but instead the making the
process of dying more tolerable for patients suffering from
irreversible coma or insufferable disease.

Countries like Netherland and Belgium have already

legalized euthanasia and it’s not endemic in these
countries that every second person is given euthanasia but
it’s the contrary medical experts thoroughly assess the illness of
patient before taking such extreme measures and it’s time for
our government too to bring in change and implement new
laws.
