Title : Analysis of Leadership Style Dan Job Satisfaction of the Chief of ward in the
city of Makassar

Objective: to compare the leadership style and job satisfaction of the in several hospitals with
different types and ownership status in the city of Makassar. Method: this study used a descriptive
analysis approach with a cross sectional survey method. The instruments used were MLQ-5X
(Multifactor Leadership Questioning) and JSS (Job Satisfaction Survey). Sampling techniques used
exhaustive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The number of respondents in this study
were 99 respondents. Research locations were in Type A Hospital, Type B Hospital, Type C Hospital,
Private Hospital, TNI / POLRI Government Hospital, and Teaching Hospital. Results: the results of
the study of the most dominant leadership style applied by the chief of ward in the city of Makassar
were transformational leadership style with the mean (± SD) = 60.33 (± 13.65) and the most job
satisfaction was satisfied, from the six hospitals the transformational leadership style was the most
dominant in Type A Hospital with the mean (± SD) = 62.03 (± 6.59), the transactional leadership style
was dominant in the Teaching Hospital with the mean (± SD) = 25.54 (± 3.57), and laissez faire
leadership style was dominant in Type C Hospital with the mean (± SD) = 3.25 (± 2.18), while the
highest percentage of the chief of ward’s job satisfaction was in type A hospital with 100%
satisfaction level with the mean (± SD) = 126.7 (± 6.48) and the lowest was in TNI / POLRI
government hospital with the mean (± SD) = 25.57 (13.24).
