Explain the design brief to students and how it will work.

lesson 1: Research – before
the 2-week term break. This
will allow students to start
thinking and collecting their
materials over the holidays.
Students are to research the effects of pollution and waste
on the environment and the beaches in particular in
Australia. We need to find out the student’s prior knowledge
using a KWL chart, brainstorm,

Students will be given the lesson to design their poster and

Lesson 2: Design target audience of the competition. Show a couple of
examples of what the poster could look like and brainstorm
ways of presenting the information.

Students will be given the opportunity to finish their posters-

Lesson 3: Design leaving a space to place a picture of their model once it has
been completed. Students will then start planning the model
that they would like to build with the collected materials.

Students will be given this lesson to finish their plan and

Lesson 4: Build start to assemble their model. Ensuring that all of the
materials are sorted and appropriate for the model.

Students will be given the lesson to assemble their model.

Lesson 5: Build

This lesson will be used for students to finish off the final
Lesson 6: Build touches on their model and to begin to create the speech
that they will read for their campaign presentation.

Students have the opportunity to finalise their model,

Lesson 7: Finalise speech or poster. Remind students that next lesson they will
be presenting their works to the class. If they would like to
practice reading their speech to a peer time will be allocated
accordingly.
Students have an allocated timeslot for their proposal.
Lesson 8: Propose and assess Voting will commence for the most efficient and sustainable
model.
