EXPT. NO-03

Name of Experiment: FM SIGNAL MODULATION USING RADIO TRANSMITTER.

Theory:

FM SIGNAL MODULATION

The characteristic modulation curve is given by the output frequency of the modulator as
function of the modulating input voltage. It is possible to detect the curve with
points, using a potentiometer to statically simulate a variation of the modulating
signal amplitude and measuring the corresponding modulator output frequency.

Apparatus:
1. MCM24/EV
2. PSLC/EV
3. Digital Storage Oscilloscope
4. Connecting Ware

Working Procedure:

FM Modulator by Radio Transmitter:

Power the module

Low frequency that provides the modulating signal
 (Connect OUT2/ OUT3 to FM MOD IN)

Local oscillator 1 that provides the carrier signal

Set switch SW1 of the section modulation selectors to AM/DSB/FM & LSB Mode (SW2)
Turn the trimmer LEVEL completely clockwise to obtain the same amplitude of the
signal VCO1 OUT provided by the local oscillator VCO1
Set switch SW6 to DC to obtain the manual control of the local os- cillator frequency
Connect the oscilloscope to the output VCO1 OUT and the oscilloscope to TP4 adjust the
trimmer DC SOURCE and note the relation between the set voltage and the measured
frequency
Set VCO1 OUT (SW4) & CERAMIC (SW5)
Set switch SW10 to LPF
Connect the probes of the oscilloscope as follows:
 Probe CH1 to the input of the modulating signal FM MOD IN
 Probe CH2 to the output of the mixer where there is the modulated signal
(output VCO1 OUT) there is a waveform similar to the one of figure. and all
mixing products
