1. What are the uses of each component in the prescription?


Camphor
 Menthol provides a cooling sensation when applied to the skin or other tissues
(such as the tongue, gums, or inside the cheeks). Menthol topical oral mucous
membrane (for use inside the mouth) is used to treat minor sore throat pain, or
mouth irritation caused by a canker sore.
 Castor oil can be used as an irritant/simulative laxative. Castor oil is a natural
emollient and a few drops may also be used to remedy dry skin, as a massage
oil, and may benefit hair as a treatment. Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, a fatty
acid that comprises about 90% of the oil.
 Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) is a terpene (organic compound) that’s
commonly used in creams, ointments, and lotions. Camphor oil is the oil
extracted from the wood of camphor trees and processed by steam distillation. It
can be used topically to relieve pain, irritation, and itching. Camphor is also used
to relieve chest congestion and inflammatory conditions.
 Water is widely used as a raw material, ingredient, and solvent in the
processing, formulation, and manufacture of pharmaceutical products, active
pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and intermediates, compendial articles, and
analytical reagents.

3. What is/are the remedies for the prescription as it relates to:
a. Excipient (s)

Remedies: Oils and water immiscible with each other. They can be made miscible with water
by emulsification. In this prescription castor oil is immiscible with water. To overcome this
incompatibility an emulsifying agent is used to make a good emulsion
