CORRELATION OF REFINED SUGAR CONSUMPTION AND FLUID TO URIC ACID

LEVELS IN BOYS ADOLESCENT

ABSTRACT
Background: Eating habits of adolesvent are likely eating high-energy foods, salt, fat, and
sweeteners. Poor eating habits during adolescent will have an impact on later life and cause
disease risk. Increase of health risk in adolescent such as obesity, hypertension and metabolic
syndrom becoming a great concern. Serum uric acid levels may be a marker for risk various
disease in adolescents. Boys adolescent is one of the risk group associated with elevated uric acid
levels. In addition high purine intake, consumption of refined sugar also can increased uric acid
levels. Meanwhile, high of fluid consumption can reduce uric acid levels. The aim of this study
was determine correlation of refined sugar consumption and fluid to uric acid levels in boys
adolescent.
Method: An observational study with cross-sectional design that involved 60 boys adolescent
aged 16 to 18 years in SMAN 2 Slawi. Data obtained from a refined sugar intake interview
directly using Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) method and dietary data were assessed from
24-hour dietary recall interview for fluid consumption. Level of uric acid in the blood was
measured with enzymatic PAP uricase method. The result was analyzed using rank Spearman
Test.
Result: The mean of uric acid levels is (5,842±0,97 mg/dl). There are 6,7% of subjects had high
level of uric acid or hyperuricemia and 93,3% had normal range of uric acid. Total of 18,3%
subject refined sugar consumption was high, more than 67 gram per day and 58,3% subject with
adequate fluid intake (>90%). It was found that there was correlation between refined sugar
consumption with uric acid levels (r=0.291, p=0.024). There was no correlation between fluid
consumption with uric acid levels (r=0.051, p=0.698).
Conclusion: There was significant correlation between refined sugar consumption with uric acid
levels, but no correlation between fluid consumption with uric acid levels in boys adolescent.

HUBUNGAN KONSUMSI GULA SEDERHANA DAN CAIRAN TERHADAP KADAR
ASAM URAT PADA REMAJA LAKI – LAKI

ABSTRAK
Latar Belakang: Kebiasaan makan remaja adalah gemar mengkonsumsi makanan tinggi energi,
natrium, lemak, dan pemanis. Kebiasaan makana yang buruk akan berdampak pada kehidupan
selanjutnya dan menimbulkan risiko penyakit. Meningkatnya risiko kesehatan pada remaja seperti
obesitas, hipertensi, dan metabolik sindrom menjadi perhatian yang besar. Kadar asam urat dapat
menjadi penanda risiko berbagai penyakit pada remaja. Remaja laki – laki merupakan salah satu
kelompok berisiko terkait dengan peningkatan kadar asam urat. Selain asupan purin yang tinggi,
konsumsi gula sederhana juga dapat mempengaruhi peningkatan kadar asam urat. Sementara itu,
konsumsi cairan yang tinggi dapat menurunkan kadar asam urat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk
mengetahui hubungan konsumsi gula sederhana dan cairan terhadap kadar asam urat pada remaja
laki – laki.
Metode: Penelitian observasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional dari 60 remaja laki – laki
berusia 16 sampai 18 tahun di SMAN 2 Slawi. Data konsumsi gula sederhana diperoleh secara
langsung menggunakan metode Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) dan data konsumsi cairan
diperoleh menggunakan wawancara dietary recall 3x24 jam. Kadar asam urat dalam darah diukur
dengan metode enzimatik PAP uricase. Hasil yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji rank
Spearman.
Hasil: Sebanyak 6,7% subjek memiliki kadar asam urat tinggi dan 93,3% subjek memiliki kadar
asam urat dalam batasan normal dengan rerata 5,842±0,97 mg/dl. Total 18,3% subjek dengan
konsumsi gula sederhana dalam kategori tinggi, yaitu lebih dari 67 gram per hari dan sebanyak
58,3% subjek memiliki konsumsi cairan yang baik (>90%). Hubungan yang bermakna antara
konsumsi gula sederhana dengan kadar asam urat (r=0,291, p=0,024). Tidak terdapat hubungan
yang bermakna antara konsumsi cairan dengan kadar asam urat (r=0,051, p=0,698).
Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara konsumsi gula sederhana dengan kadar
asam urat, konsumsi cairan tidak berhubungan dengan kadar asam urat pada remaja laki – laki.
