Unique Features The following features of MixitWin are often not available in feed formulation programs.

 When balancing a least-cost ration there is no limit, except computer memory, to the number of ingredients,
nutrients and constraints you may use. In practical terms, this means you can save thousands of ingredients,
nutrients and rations in a single database and use hundreds of ingredients, nutrients and constraints in making a
balanced, least-cost ration.

 Get specific help with balancing rations. A balanced, least-cost ration is not possible if the ingredients that you
select cannot meet your ingredient, nutrient and ratio constraints. In this case MixitWin provides very specific help.
 An example of this help is the message “Lower the minimum of Protein to 12.907 or include ingredients high in
Protein.”

General Features Here are some things you might be doing with MixitWin

You can

 Balance rations by daily amounts. Undo the last balanced ration.

 Export data to text files, spreadsheets, or word processing programs.
 Import data from the MIXIT-2 or MIXIT-2+ feed formulation programs.
 Calculate nutrient amounts from equations while balancing rations.
 Select the American system, the metric system, or another system of weights.
 Choose between English or Spanish, or enter the words of your own language.
 Factor ingredient and nutrient constraints; and factor nutrients in ingredients.
 Maintain separate databases for different plants, clients or animal types.
 Add or delete an ingredient or nutrient in many rations automatically.
 Change the value of a nutrient based on the values of other nutrients.
 Record products you regularly purchase, and write purchase orders.
 Find a name or part of a name. Change prices by price equations.
 Automatically back up your data.

Ingredients

MixitWin has ingredient and nutrient data from NRC tables and other sources. You can
  Enter new ingredients, and change or delete current ingredients.
 Select and change ingredients such as Yellow Dent Corn, and group the ingredients on reports.
 Give ingredients a current price, six other prices, dry matter %, and amounts of nutrients.
 Copy nutrient values of one ingredient to another ingredient; save a ration as an ingredient.

Nutrients

You can

 Enter new nutrients, and change or delete current nutrients.

 Select and change nutrients and units of measure such as Protein (%) and Vitamin A (IU/G).
 See nutrients in the order you choose. Some appear on the screen, but not on reports.
 Change all nutrient values of one ingredient, or one nutrient value of all ingredients.
 See nutrients that are appropriate to each type of ration, such as Dairy or Poultry.
 Multiply all nutrients by a constant, or multiply and add to another nutrient.
 See daily nutrient values such as Protein (g/day) and Vitamin A (IU/day).

Rations
MixitWin lets you create two types of rations. In one type you select the ingredients and their amounts and MixitWin calculates the nutrient
content of the ration; this is a hand-entered ration. In the second, you specify constraints that the ration must satisfy, such as minimum or
maximum amounts of protein and energy, and MixitWin selects the ingredients and their amounts; this is a balanced ration. You can

 Change the total as fed or dry matter amounts of a ration; change the dry matter intake.
 Print reports that show ingredients and nutrients, and batch weights for mill operators.
 Print batch weight reports that arrange ingredients into groups such as Bulk or Hand Add.
 Find all rations with a specified ingredient; add an ingredient to many rations.
 See what each ingredient in the ration contributes to a specified nutrient.
 Balance least-cost rations by linear programming.
 Show reports for balanced rations with ingredient and nutrient amounts and constraints.
 Show reports for balanced rations with high and low prices, opportunity prices, and costs.
 Constrain ingredients and nutrients on an as fed or a dry matter basis; use nutrient ratios.
 See suggestions for balancing a ration when ingredients do not meet the nutrient constraints.

Newest features

 A special linear programming procedure gives the most economical rations for animals with fixed as fed intake or
fixed dry matter intake.
 Requirement feeding is supported; this is the most economical way of feeding animals if the cost of the feed is the
primary consideration.
 A new Help paper explains many uses of computer feed formulation programs.
 Minimums, maximums and amounts of a single ingredient or nutrient in all balanced rations are shown.
 Feed mill batch weight reports can have from 1 to 15 ingredient comment boxes.
 Price sheets can show alphabetized formula names.
  When balancing a ration, ingredients can be selected by name or the price of a selected nutrient.
 Saving a formula as an ingredient is now part of the Edit This Formula window.
 The six alternate ingredient prices have changeable names.
 The Backup program restores files that were backed up and uses a different backup folder for each database.
 Many help files are rewritten.
 Nutrients, ingredients and formulas have ID codes that are used to send formulas to another MixitWin program or
customer, and receive formulas from another MixitWin program or customer.
 Price sheets can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet.
 Some rations can be balanced more economically for animals with fixed dry matter intake.
