John Winston Lennon was born during a German air raid on Liverpool in 1940.

He grew up in a poor district. When he was only four, his parents separated.
His mother remarried and John ended up living with his aunt Mimi.

Even though he was intelligent, John did not get good marks at school. He was
lucky to get into an art school where he met his first wife, Cynthia.

On his sixteenth birthday, John’s aunt bought him a guitar and then he formed
a group called The Quarry Men. Soon, afterwards, Paul McCartney joined the
group. John and Paul became great friends and began writing songs together.
They finally called their group The Beatles. Members were added and thrown
out. Paul introduced George Harrison to John and George joined the group,
followed by a new drummer, Ringo Starr.

The Beatles were discovered by Brian Epstein, who became their manager. He
managed to tame their rebelliousness and got them a recording deal with EMI,
a big record company.

During the 1960s, The Beatles conquered the world. From the Queen of
England to the Pope, nobody, it seemed, was immune to the effects of
Beatlemania.

In 1966 John met Yoko Ono, a Japanese artists, and they became close friends.
Soon John left his wife and his son Julian and married Yoko. They became
known as devoted pacifists.

On the birth of his son Sean, in 1975, John retired from music, but five years
later he recorded Double Fantasy. However, before the album was released, he
was shot dead by a deranged fan.
