Krishna Kamal Flower- The alluring beauty and its relationship with

Mahabharata Mythology.

Passion flower is known as the Krishna Kamal flower. The


scientific name of the passion flower is Passiflora Incarnata. It is famous for its
pleasing look. It has an important role as a flower in the Hindu epic “The
Mahabharata”. It also has medicinal importance. It has a wider range of color
combination- pink, blue, purple. Usually, the blue Passion flower is called the
Krishna Kamal Flower.

Krishna Kamal in ‘Mahabharata’

According to the Hindu Mythology Krishna Kamal is named after Lord


Krishna. It is believed that the 100 petals of the Krishna Kamal flower (Passion
Flower) symbolize Kaurava brothers. There are five sepals for this flower, which
stands for the Pandava brothers. The radial present in the centre of the flower
looks like the sudarshana chakra of Lord Krishna. The three filament in the centre
of the flower symbolizes the Tri murthi(Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu).
The green bulb seen in the centre represents Panchali(wife of pandavas). Thus,
the whole structure of the flower is co-related to the Mahabharatha epic.

This flower also has a resemblance with the rakhi, which is used during
Raksha Bandhan.
Krishna Kamal as Medicine

It is very useful as a medicine. It helps in controlling blood sugar rate. It


helps in the treatment of asthma, shortness of breath and bronchial
constriction. It helps in improving concentration. It has antispasmodic and
analgesic properties. Almost all the parts of the plant can be used in the field of
medicine. It helps to cure sleep problems, Anxiety and nervousness. It helps in
calming our mind from tension. It is also beneficial in lowering blood pressure. It
can reduce the effect of menopause in females.

Krishna Kamal in the book of Christianity

It is known as passion fruit in common. It got its name because its corona
resembles the crown of thorn sworn by Jesus Christ at the time of crucifixion.
